Huyandai w240D kaput ?

You poor people, having to deal with repair-tech :(

My W240D-PVA developed the same fault.

First try, it took them 2 months to replace the entire LCD, didn't fix it, yet they sent it back to me clearly with the same fault...

Second try, they replaced the inverter and "logic" board. This corrected it, but took them another 2 months, and they managed to damage the casing and stand in the process.

I didn't follow up the damage as I didn't want to be without my monitor for another 2 months and for it to come back pink or something stupid.

Ultimately, my monitor works now, and it's basically new inside, but wow, what a truly awful service!

Did they manage to keep your PVA panel or did you end up with a TN too?

I sent RepairTech a complaint and asked for an on-site replacement as advised by the retailer when they responded to my earlier complaint. Apparently they're going to forward it to the head office. The retailer says if they don't offer an on-site replacement they will speak to them. I should have just asked the retailer to speak to RepairTech then but the guy on the phone was nice and gave me his name for future contact.

They don't read any notes you include either in the box or given when setting up the RMA, found that out in a similar fashion.

How this company is still in business and still used by big names is beyond me, they must offer the service at some seriously cut back prices.

Am I right in assuming this is the same company that makes cars?

The are a huge company that is made up of different groups, these make anything from consumer electronics, cargo ships, cars, etc.

I've learnt my lesson. I will never be buying another Hyundai product or another product that uses Repair Tech for its warranty.

+1! I used Dell pretty much exclusively now and always try to steer people away from the cheaper brands that use this type of repair warranty!

Resoldering 4 converters(or whatever it's called in English) on inverter worked like a charm for me. From what I know it is common problem in this model. It will work on 9 in 10 cases.
If it doesn't help you will need new inverter. Its symbol is gh214a and it cost about $40.

I'd like to add that it is very easy to do it yourself.
It was like 2nd time in my life that I had soldering iron in my hand.
Good luck.

After reading this thread if mine packs up then i think i will just chuck it in the bin and get myself 3 new monitors for eyefinity, shame about all these faults because Im quite happy with mine

this is how these companies get away with this kind of behaviour. we all have beter things to do with our time and money but they will keep doing it as long as they get away with it.

Well, my W240D packed up last week so I'm taking the inverter to work tomorrow to try the above. I'll let you know how it pans out.

Well, i resoldered the connections today at work. Just got home, put it all back together and powered on - appears to be working. Fingers crossed this is a permanent fix!

I thought I'd update you guys on my case. Not that you may care but I'm sure others will stumble upon this thread via search when having the same issue.

I got mine back today for I think the fourth time? (I'm beginning to lose count).

They basically lied to me in June when I demanded an on-site replacement. They told me they would have a PVA panel by the end of the week and to send my W240D back in for another repair. I agreed to this thinking they wouldn't lie to me like that and it would be a fast fix. But it was a huge mistake. NEVER BELIEVE A WORD REPAIR TECH SAY TO YOU.

Over a month later I got the company I bought it from to start contacting them. RepairTech were slow responding to them but by a month later offered me two alternative models. I chose the better of the two (which seemed worse than the W240D in my opinion) and the place I bought it forwarded it to RepairTech. 2 weeks go by and I hear nothing.

I gave them a couple of weeks to respond to the request and sent them a legal threat on Thursday with a 14 day period. Friday they called me and said the original W240D is ready to be delivered. I didn't ask about the alternative model since I felt my W240D was better. I received it today. I can't help but think they've been sitting on it for weeks/months just to see what they can get away with. This is the second time a complaint letter has been followed up with a delivery within two days.

I took it out the box and the stand actually fell off with the screws in the bottom of the box. I assume they took that off to fix the screen but to leave it in that state? 3 of the screws wouldn't go back in, they just fell back out. I had to put some fresh screws in it which didn't fit properly and now those screws are probably in there forever because I couldn't turn them back out. So in effect I may have damaged the stand trying to fix a problem they caused.

Now it's back I can't decide if they've put another TN on it or if it's actually a PVA. Certainly the right side of this page is a darker blue than the left side but I think that may be down to the back light as the blue isn't even the same all over even when looking straight on. The quality of the panel is a bit weird too, it's like there's something on it but I can't describe it.

I don't know what to do or how to test it properly for whether it's acceptable. I'm not an expert on this. It was clear the last one was a TN and the viewing angles seem better than previous. The more I look at it the more I'm becoming convinced it's a PVA with weird back light distribution. Is there any way to fix that? It's been a year since I last had this monitor in a working condition so I can't remember how it should look. I can't remember if the back light was always like this, it is a 3+ year old model after all. I'm also not sure what that effect on the panel seems to be. It's not visible from more than three feet but I can't sit that distance when operating a PC.

I'm tempted to just accept it, use it for another year or so and then upgrade to new technology in a year or so when my finances improve. Whatever this is, it's better than the backup screen I've been using for the past year.

My Hyundai W240D-PVA failed on me a couple of days ago :(

Thanks for sharing all your stories.

It's been an awesome monitor, and it's about 4 years old now. I'm pretty sure it's the inverter board - it's just black, with the blue light on. I opened it up and had a poke around, and it started working again for 20 minutes.

I was hoping to replace the inverter board, but struggling to find anyone selling them (Samsung GH214A I believe).

I guess I'll have to save up for a replacement...
