Anybody know if the 580W Hyper would be man enough to drive a X1900 crossfire setup? The machine would also have a 4000+, 2GB Ram 4x SATA and a DVD drive.

What crossfire setup you got? if its the x1900 setup you will need more than 580w, x1900 crossfire at load takes up 400w plus without all yor HDDs and other stuff

It does paint a worse case scenario picture, ie everything at full load, all at once!

When I put my system on there, I had about 10w to spare, so I was a bit concerned, but it's not crashed yet (fingers crossed!), so I can only assume that 100% load hardly ever occurs.

I mean 4 x SATA hardrives accessing at once is unheard off isn't it?

Yep the equation is N-1 for the amount of storage available so 4x160 disks would generate 3x160 storage. Minimum disks is 3, preferable all identical size and speed, but not neccesarily.

A seasonic 600w doesnt quite cope with X1900XT Crossfire, so i would assume that the Hiper 580 wont be up to the task either.

The FSP 700w is the only one OcUK will use in there Crossfire setups,

I use it in mine, and its on ATI's certified list of working PSU's

For a bit more money i would recommend the FSP, unless you want to look at the more expensive Tagan monsters.

I bought an antec neoHE 550watt thats crossfire certified according to ati, didn't cost a bomb either. :)

Ah, didn't realise you had them in a Raid config!! And, I also admit I'd not thought of the powering up bit... ahem!

Anyway, are you just putting this rig together and already have a power supply?

Reason I ask is that I'd be tempted to see if it worked before I went to the expense of buying another PSU?

That's just me though, I don't like parting with money until I have to! ;)

The reason the NeoHE 550 is certified is it provides up to 504w (max 42A) over three 12v rails compared to the Hiper which provides <360w (max 30A) on two rails.

With the NeoHE you can have one rail per x1900 plus one rail for the MB and HDDs (in theory).

Never just look at the max watts of a PSU as this figure is normally worthless when building a system.

JFYI the seasonic 600w provides 432w (max 36A) over two 12v rails.
