Hypersenationalism and the media

Any of you who aren't in the region that gets Midlands Today be thankful, be very very thankful it means you don't have to put up with Nick "I used to be on national TV you know" Owen with his diabolical reportage and his obfuscated agenda (either that or he is just plain appalling and has been blagging it all these years)

A lot of people are finally realising the media lies to them, after the heavily left-dominated media in the US was completely embarassed by Trump's victory. This is a good thing, it might help people to stop believing everything they read or see on TV.

Do you have any substantial examples of the "heavily-left dominated media in the US" lying in the run-up to the election?

It's clear that huge numbers of people in the US are annoyed about "the establishment" or whatever - but don't you think it might be down to anger at the true things the media tells them, or belief that they are being lied to - when in fact they're not? Most lies in the media seemed to come from Trump's own mouth - the tragedy is that people actually believe them - not that the media itself is lying.

The newspapers and media are only about one thing now.

Money.

Everything else is circumstantial, so do what any other normal person does and just troll the comments section ( I recommend the Daily Fail and the Guardian) and take everything else with a pinch of salt.

Don't forget ratings.

Journalists/news readers are trolls as well. They like to be antagonistic so they can report the reaction. I really despise journalists/editors with a passion.

Sky News is a real cesspit of a channel as well that I swear is a rag channel now.

I'm not sure about hyper sensationalism in the UK main stream media but I think the 24 hour news cycle is having/has had negative influence on the quality of news.

Many things don't go reported because they don't have good visuals or are slotted behind visually impressive filler. The pace and tone of news has been undermined by the desire to meet specific news windows. Politics is the worst for this where every story is trailled the day before, leaked in the morning then the actual announcement followed by evening news analysis. It undermines Parliament and turns the story into the story rather than the facts.

The media is an incestuous business and there is plainly group think and confirmation bias on some subjects. Also some of the excepted norms for reporting become tiresome. I often get bored of listening to some Today programme interview start with the most extreme and unfair summary of the topic before the interviewee has even spoken. " Dear Minister it's true you hate people, and I mean really hate them. Isn't that true you hate filled hater man. Tell us about your latest hateful idea and why you chose to punish people you hate" YAWN

If you believed everything you were bombarded with, one might think that we all live in racist, misogynist, homophobic, ultra violent, rape culture post apocolypse, and I think this is actually affecting societies mental health on a massive scale. Such gross distortions of reality on a never ending basis must surely be detrimental to society.

Well in fairness we may well come across as a dignified race but there is still a hell of a lot of what you listed going on in the world, it's just now with all the social media we get to see it daily and 'reported' by the average Joe on the street of which the press pick up on and run with.

We have a long way (and will probably never even get there) to go to all just get along.

Have anyone read the Harry Potter books? In particular, the Order of the Phoenix? That's a prime example of the press interfering with politics. Not only that, but the politicians as well interfering with their own policies (Ministry of Magic).

The crux of this thread is that we are proles. Sheeple. Datum. Just another brick in the wall. We're all pawns in this game, even if I'm Pawnless. We're all pawns.

I think largely it's the truth but many a time spun so as to create some ambiguity, for example using only part of a quote. But you can do you own research to fact check. Give some examples, where does the mainstream media talk of the apocalypse etc. Are you watching channels like Alex Jones?

It's partly as we have so extra media than the mainstream now. As I said give some examples.

Just watch the 6pm news like we used to and you will get the main stories.

Avoid any sites who rely on advertisement to keep the lights on. They need to sensalionist headlines to drive traffic and sell newspapers. Once you understand that fact, there are few sites to read your news. But knowing some on here, they would call the bbc propaganda mouthpiece, but watch RT.

What would you say is a reliable source of news?

Infowars only.

As the next poster said. I used to watch news before work years ago and it sets you up on a very bad day. Watching Takeshis castle instead made me far happier. It really is the simple things.
