Hypnotherapy

No, I am paying £38 a session - usual last around 75 mins.

I have found it good value - have been through about six sessions.

You have the ability to sort things out yourself, and the hypnotherapy just provides you with a guise to do it under.

That is correct to an extent, but without deep relaxation under hypnosis, it is difficult to change the patterns in the sub-conscious mind.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is not possible to be hypnotised unless you are fully willing.

A better term for it is self-suggestion, this doesn't conjure up images of a man with spinning eyes, swinging a pendant in your face.

It is just suggestion, but suggestion can be a powerful thing. When used in healing, in general it is to help some be more positive minded about their illness and counter the downward spiral. Positive thoughts can help the body heal itself.

I'll ask again.
You think cancer can be cured by positive thoughts?

Do you know what causes cancer?

'Positive thoughts' is a misleading idea - the same attitude that makes a person run a marathon, climb a mountain and most other challenges in life are the sort of attitudes that can help a person heal themselves... the psychological aspects of many diseases are often ignored...

I take that as a no.

I am being a devil's advocate here, but I always do that when I don't think someone is using a reasoned or balanced viewpoint.

I have proof that positive thoughts prolong the life of a cancer patient against the thoughts of those that give up on being diagnosed. Cancer is cancer and no amount of thoughts are going to keep you from meeting your maker (unless medicine and surgery is involved).
Positive thoughts with healing are in the area of Scientology and Tom Cruise and I think that speaks volumes.

The only issue with this stance is that there have long been example of people not only surviving cancer, but surviving cancer despite no medical/surgical intervention etc. Largely these normally are religious "miracles" or alternative medicines which scientifically should do nothing. In these cases what do you think has happened?

Where?
I don't believe it.

Quick google earch (I'm about to go out so can only do this quickly)

Clicky

It's essentially just a short piece debating "miracles", but that's not the important part. It lists about 15 spontanteous remissions of cancer, and gives possible reasons why they may have occured.

Just as the final bit before I leave, I'm not actually trying to get you to believe hypnotherapy does work, only that in some cases with unresolved explanations, psychological state is a possible explanation and ergo hypnotheray could have an affect (as it relates to the mind).

Anyway, that makes no real sense but I should've left by now, good job I'm always late anyway :D

I went to my doctor a few years ago and as she had just done a hynopherapy course my Mum and I went along to have hypnopherapy to give up smoking.

It had no effect on my Mum at all as she spent the whole time thinking about shopping lists cleaning etc and thought it was a waste of time so didnt get into "the zone" at all, whereas I relaxed and got into it,and maybe was more of a believer ...I would not say it made me totally give up smoking ( but it certainly made me far less interested in it and everytime I had a ciggy I felt bad ) but It definalty contributed to me sccesfully giving up :)

I bought a couple of Glen Harold hynopherapy CD,s from Amazon ..one to improve memory and the other confidense and I found when using them regulary they both worked very well and I felt uber relaxed and bouyant about life etc...

So I do beleive that if you have an open mind to hynopherapy then it can work well.I think it just allows you to untap certain things within you rather than suddenly changing something.

Good call mate. I have used these in conjunction with the sessions with my therapist. The CD's are great to give yourself 30 mins a day just to chill, clear your mind and fill it with positive thoughts.

I am certainly a more relaxed person since I started using these techniques, and firmly believe in the power of the mind.

Hypnotherapy does work concerning mind problems.
Curing cancer with hypnotherapy doesn't.

The more pertinent question is can your mind cure you of cancer? And if it can, then hypnotherapy could be the catalyst to cause your mind to do that if the help is needed.
