Hyundai i30N

Very nice looking car that is. But It just doesn't have the heritage of say a GTI or ST, Type R etc If u say you drive an I30N your just going to be met with a blank expression by most people. They could have come up with a better name for it lol. And at 25k yes it may be cheaper than a GTI but people will still go for the ST's, VXR's etc over the Hyundai at that price

yes but the trouble with it is, they'll go for the GTI because the Hyundai looks cheap and nasty, it looks like it's for the Indian market, a flipping KIA or something similar.

You're talking poop as per the usual with 0% experience.[/QUOTE]

NO i've been in all of them actually ! the Type R and WRX STI is better inside. i had a Hyundai 2.0 coupe but that was ok inside, but this i30N from the pictures is very similar to the normal i30, about the same as a Jazz.............cheap looking inside.

this doesn't mean that the car isn't worth considering, because the plastic is very durable and cleans up a treat

Why did Hyundai scrap the more recent Coupe? It seemed to sell reasonably well and the last gen was a decent looking sporty coupe it's just the crap slow engines let them down. More people would have been interested in a new Coupe with that 2.0T in and 250bhp. The market needs a 3 door sporty car for 25k ish as everyone is sick of all the new hot hatches only coming with 5 doors they just look the same as the tarted up diesel variants apart from the twin exhausts
the 2.0 SE Coupe wasn't really powerful enough and neither was the later v6 version, after this they abandoned sports cars and concentrated on cheap mass produced family runabouts etc etc........... they even said to me 2 days ago ``we dont know much about this new N range and to be honest they're a waste of time around here, because all our customers are over 70 years old and all they want is something slow and reliable``...........says it all doesn't it ! but at least Hyundai have got the reliability bit right.

lol it's not looking promising for the i30N if the dealerships are saying that to customers enquiring about it.
I really liked the Veloster they done aswell it was a cool sporty looking car that was let down by naff engine choices that would have been a great choice for a hot hatch. Looks like they stopped making that after 2 years according to google.
this is the New Forest, the salesman down here aren't exactly fired up........... most of them are Yawning and scratching their heads when you walk in, the Hyundai dealership is pretty dead...........the New Forest is a great place to live but it's very quiet and unsophisticated, esp around Pennington.

They probably want to shed that image and start again.

The coupe wasn't a good car, it looked like a sports car but it was a long way from being one. It was slow, heavy, wrong wheel drive, handing wasn't great and the v6 was comically underpowered. They can't have that sitting next to this hot hatch because it's just not up to par.

i raced a Mitsubishi FTO ? it blew me away very easily, i think mine was 0-60 in something like 8.7.... so yes pretty slow. (mine had 4 headlights and cost 18k new) the next model was the 2.7 v6 ???? well that only had about 160hp and the same speed as mine........ some time after this Hyundai gave up................. this i30N hasn't been designed by Hyundai but an ex- BMW racing guy or something like that...

this i30N is also slower than the others, but from what i've read so far, drives as well............ it's a shame they didn't modify their i30n concept rally car by just taming it down slightly, because that looks wicked............. i really love the look of that monster

that chalk blue is a horrid colour...........yea it'll be a great drive, i've not seen a dodgy review at all.
the only thing that puts me off is it's very bland with no personality, i prefer the WRX STI easily.

the i20N is more interesting, because the normal i20 is by far the best looking of the bunch........God i see these cars all day long, it's such an annoying car to be behind, they will not go over 25mph in a 40 zone, every ****** driver is the same that owns a Hyundai..............80+ years old, semi- dementia and living in a New Milton Bungalow :D:D:D

be careful, the 25k is for the slower version and not the one in the vids, the faster one is 28k ;)
depreciation ? well i suppose it depends how good it ACTUALLY is !
the i30N has Hyundai in house manufactured brakes and seats, so you'll get no Brembos or Recaro etc, but from the reviews nobody is complaining....
it's a damned good car SO FAR, but the trouble is it looks too much like all the other run of the mill hatchbacks, i prefer something that looks like an old school Evo

But it's not proven itself yet, how is it going to be holding together in 5-10+ years time compared to Japanese competition and other well established performance brands?

nobody can answer that............but the BIG QUESTION IS........what's Subaru up to ???? will there be another classic WRX STI in 2020, or will it be some sort of hybrid thingy.

that looks nice, there's another concept that looks good too........that has a similar STI front end, they must keep the bonnet scoop though because that's iconic

yea that's a stupid noise.....as are the pops and farts it makes, because if you follow the vids closely it's making exactly the same popping noise, it sounds like a recording that's been inserted between gear shifts!

i saw the Hyundai i30N two days ago at Hyundai Everton
https://www.hyundai.co.uk/dealer/everton-garage-lymington

it's not registered yet and not for sale till January so i couldn't drive it, so i just sat inside and he started it up, the seats hug you pretty well..........the exhaust sounds good in N Mode, it's pretty loud !............the inside is ok but simple and plain.

it's plain and cheap looking on the outside and the wheels look cheap. the black sports trim/ side skirts etc are pretty uninspiring............ after viewing this i went to Balmer Honda and took another look at the Type R, it's miles better quality wise, i've been looking at the Type R for a few weeks now and i've changed my opinion.....i think it looks quite good now, it grows on you, it causes polarised opinions you either hate it or like it, i cant stop looking at it, it captivates me, it looks so Alien.

In stark contrast, the I30N looks plain and boring. the salesman said to me, ``it drives really well, so fast and agile, but it's a boy racer's Hooligan car for bombing around Lymington, just keep it for 2 years and sell it``...

it's cheaper than the other cars which is great, but it shows!

``oh my God Mal X is back from his ban.... have you bought an Evo yet`` ;):p:p

Car Throttle did a little piece on it and they seem to like it. Sounds good and the interior looks alright to me. Not bad in black either.

the one i saw is the blue as shown on Google, but that black looks much better.
the exhaust is quiet in normal mode, but switch to N Mode and it sounds just like that.

photos are rubbish, the free image hosting compresses them a hell of a lot....... the dealership is in a right mess, lots of building work going on, i was on my own they had quite a few customers inside...... man it was cold !

it looks better than the last time i saw it and although it's plain Jane, it actually looks pretty good

the top photo is closest to its true colour
