I am alive at the best possible time

depends what country you live in. in this country id agree with you but if i lived in the third world conditions are possibly worse today than they were 100 years ago, i doubt there lives have been affected to much by technology and 100 years ago aids wasnt ripping through the world. i could be completely wrong of course

Well that's what you inferred, seeing as we are comparing today to the past, so it's not any worse in that respect. 100 years ago and more injustice was off the scale compared to today.

We're not JUST comparing it to the past. If you actually read the OP, yes...read the OP, you will see that we're also comparing it to the future.

I just don't believe now is the best possible time to be living. It would be foolish to assume that at no point in the future will life be any better, be that 100 years from now or 100,000 years.

Generally things have gotten progressively better throughout history, I can't see why that shouldn't continue.

Like I said it was just a loose prediction, please read between the lines. There will be significantly less species left on the planet in 100 years, they won't be all gone, but there will be less than there are now.

But you sit inside and play WoW all day so please don't comment anymore on quality of life in the past, present or future.

Current times aren't so great. Too much bad crap happening, too much injustice. I can't live in a time and place with all that, and so much of it. Many people just seem to be oblivious to it. They just go about their daily lives not giving a crap. I can't do that.

What have you done to change it?

into a big arch?

:D :D :D

Are they birds flying into the ark?

Gotta wonder what the point of that is.

And what happened to all the evil fish?

I'm mearly hoping to live to see the revolution in which health and safety officials are first against the wall :)

tbh I would have preferred to live in or around the 10th Century. imo all this technology just complicates our lives as well as mother-nature. Back then you just had books, education and knowledge, no distractions, no uneeded technologies.

Horribly mistaken idea. Printing did not arrive in Europe until the 14th century - any books were written by hand, the books in England numbered in the hundreds, and 'education' such as it was was reserved for the super-rich. People died young, and simple treatments for ailments and diseases did not exist. Superstition permeated all aspects of existence for the vast majority of people. Life was cruel, difficult and short.

I'm happy I had the indescribable luck to be born in a time and a place which doesn't really really suck.

Im sorry, have you actually been to the future then.

I dont think it really matters when you are born, your life would only seem bad if it got progressively worse as you grew up. If you grew up 100 years in the past in harsh conditions you would generally accept it and not go "blah blah blah if only i was born 100 years from now" as those living conditions are the only ones you know so theres not anything to compare it with. Sure the quality of life would have been worse back then but you wouldnt be any the wiser if it was.

I may sound a bit cruel here but how do the animal deaths of the more rare species affect anyone here today? they dont, its really pretty irrelevant. Im not saying its a good thing but thats the way i see it, i doubt millions of people will grieve when a species of animal becomes extinct or it will affect the quality of life for anyone in a big way.
