I am now a true petrol head! Bought an Alfa !! (Giulia Quadrifoglio)

Do you have any thoughts on the carbon build up problem on pre-MY19 cars? Might be a likely cause for the excessive carbon on the spark plugs.

Did not know it was an issue, it feels like a 500HP car though, as its as quick in a straight line as my GT3 was.

Wow, must absolutely fly!
What are your thoughts on the interior build quality and infotainment?

What you reckon @Gibbo ?
I'd take the V6 for a few grand less tbh.

I do love properly restored and perfect example old cars or well done modified ones, but 130k is the same money a Mclaren 600 LT, the latter is by far better in every single way.
That is the issue with some older stuff the pricing is just getting beyond insane, as good as an M3 CSL is or an R34 Skyline I'd never drop 100k plus for one, let alone closer to 200k, it is absolutely bonkers, that is flagship Lambo, Ferrari and Mclaren money and cars from the latter are simply far superior in every way and a lot more fun and enjoyable to drive.

I've kept the 458 for four years now, I absolutely love it as a car, drove it most of last week as I really enjoy it in slippery wet weather as the car literally slides and moves around like an M3 CSL.

How are you finding this car now Gibbo?
Still enjoying it?

Absolutely love it, I think for some the interior and features would be lacking for some as I suspect the car is dramatically behind the equivalent BMW or Mercedes but to drive I put it quite a step above I also love just how versatile it is, drive it in A mode it is silent, feels like 300HP or less so never lets go and can achieve upto 40mpg on a run. Flick it to race mode and it turns into a noisy hooligan car, but it has such great steering feel and feels pretty light on its feet. Very happy with it and slowly nearly there now on having changed all fluids and servicing so in theory is now good for another 40-50k miles and only needing oil changes.

My first problem!

Got in the car this morning, moved it in the drive, could not get out, drivers door refusing to open. So climbed and got out passenger side.

The drivers door refuses to open, tried battery disconnect, new battery in FOB, pushing and pulling against door whilst locking and unlocking. It seems no matter what I try I cannot open the drivers door from inside, outside or using the manual key.

Also noticed if I lock car, the doors are locked, when I pull drivers door handle it unlocks all the doors and if I then open a door alarm goes off. The car does not have keyless entry and the FOB was in the house in its faraday box. So the car must think something is happening on drivers door. My only guess is an internal mechanism, not sure what else to try but as I cannot open the door means I cannot even remove the door card.

Any ideas?

No ideas Gibbo, but that sure sounds like a doozy, very odd.
Checked CCTV to ensure nobody tried to do anything to it last night with a remote key hack or something?

Was just about to post an ‘is it still running?’ joke :)

Used to happen to my AMG. Had to double lock it and then unlock and eventually the door would budge. Sometimes took a few attempts.

One of the many problems that is now someone else’s to deal with.

Tried the double lock and unlock several times with no luck, the fact even the internal handle seems to have no effect tells me something has failed inside the door, gonna be a pig to sort considering I cannot remove door card. Will just take it for a drive and chance my luck it self fixes itself, otherwise at a loss, could try calling RAC out I guess.

Alfas for you, they are like TVRs, break down a lot

Sorry Gibbo, couldn't resist ;)

have you tried the Alfa forums ?

One guy said he had it on an Audi, cost huge money to sort as they have to strip the dash out to be able to get door panel off.

No one with an Alfa has seen it yet, found a decent Alfa main dealer called Research Garage Alfa/Jeep in Nuneaton, highly recommended so gave them a ring who will look at it, also quoted me £411 to do the big major belt service as well, which is cheaper than a Specialist, so gonna get it booked in for that and if I have not fixed the door they can look at it, hopefully they will know a few tricks to maybe get it open.
