I Can Feel It Building Up But .....

Finding it hard to get excited about the olympics...as others have said, it feels like its being held in a different country.

I also hate the stupid bloody mascots they came up with.....are they really the best this greatr nation of ours could come up with?

They make me feel sick even just thinking about them

Aside from the potential embarrassment of us cocking up the organisation its not something i am looking forward to but I will watch some of it. Shame that the shooting sports I like will be given there usual 30 secs 'and this is what happened elsewhere in the games' but aside from that should be some good events.

+1 (only if England get there)

I'd prefer if we didn't get there. I can't stand the media fapfest when we beat nanikkistan or whatever 1-0 and then all of a sudden we're some pathetic team when we lose and inevitably get knocked out! It's getting old and stale. Team needs some new blood and a new manager!

there's hype for the London oympics?

only people I've seen who seem bothered are the people being paid by it.

Get into the spirit man! The games can only be successful if the locals actually get behind it and support the damn thing.

How are we supposed to get into the spirit? We can't even get tickets because they are all sold out!

Its going to be nothing but a faff, as a londoner you should know. The transport system is going to implode and after a couple of years the 'legacy' facilities will be covered in graffiti and smashed windows. You can't polish a turd, so why bother trying to polish East London?.

Some people might arrive early/stay late to visit some places in the UK? Not the places you mentioned but Manchester, Bath, Brighton, Blackpool (:D), Cornwall etc?

Manchester? Really?!

Seriously... On that subject why should people go to manchester? I have someone there at the moment and they are bored after two days and another friend suggests it's just "rubbish". Suggestions as to what to do would be useful! :p

And why are they sold out? Because of the hype and interest! Loads of londoners have tickets, just so many people wanted them... So much for no one caring...

Millions of pounds of wasted money, Tom Daleys face on every channel, banal commentary inbetween events, British spirit being shouted about here there and everywhere, some annoying conclusions about 'what it means to be British', how great 'we' are, a strange ticketing system, not enough close ups of the womens volleyball, a massive hype which completely overstates the actual awesomeness of the actual sports, people who happen to have been fortunate in terms of genes, background, upbringing and getting 'spotted' and also were prepared to put some effort into something being lauded despite the fact that in any other context such people would be treated as if they had raped the queen, stupid underpriced tickets (if they got 62 times more bids for 100m final than there were tickets, I reckon they could have put the prices up at least 5-fold and still sold all the tickets - although then again maybe that high price would put people off bidding for other tickets).

Bah, HUMBUG.

I will be watching some of the rowing on TV - can be quite exciting, as well as instructional and inspiring. I might also watch some gymnastics, and maybe field events. And the TV might go on at other points as well. Doesn't mean I like everything about it though.

does anyone know anyone who has bought tickets?

it annoys me that the people running the thing are dishing tickets out to their bum chums and joe public have to pay hundreds of pounds to not even know what event they are watching.

i'll be watching from my living room.

Same as the OP, couldn't care less. It could be held on the moon for all I care (High jump would be worth watching though!).

Like blackpool, it's one of those places people from outside the UK want to visit and people from inside the UK want to escape or avoid! :D

Oh, and Manchester United. :rolleyes::o

Crikey - are you lot this miserable about every sporting event? I bet half of you watch football week in, week out. Something a bit different comes along and you can't criticise fast enough!

I applied for tickets, got turned down, and am still looking forward to the Olympics.

I would care more if it was in another country, but the fact its in the UK means I'm actually not looking forward to it.

Plus, it costs so much money to run, the vast majority of it won't be regained through tourism or anything.

Got a text today telling me I didn't get any tickets. Not really that bothered to be honest.

I'm not applying for any tickets in the 2nd ballet.

Probably should have been awarded to Paris back in 2005 anyway, much more deserving city than London.
