I think they look good in the second pic. They are pretty tatty at the moment though. I would only cut them if it's what you want to do though. It's one thing for your girlfriend to say she prefers your hair without them, another to make demands though.

Get it cut. You'll be glad of the change, you can always grow them back if not. You'll have a favour in the bank from your good lady too. From the photos, I don't think you particularly suit dreads anyway.

My mate had dreads like yours for a good three years. They can be saved. Go to a professional hairdresser who can do the unatural dreads and ask them to separate and sort them out. Problem solved!

I agree, I think the OP's look a bit messy but I think dreads can look quite cool when they're short/tidy.

i say get them cut ,they look like a matted sheeps arse ,getting your hair cut doesnt mean that your personality will change aswell ,just look at it as a new chapter in your life.
