Ok folks.. help me decide..

About me:

19, 1 Years NCB, Licence for 1 Year.

I want:

Hatch/Saloon... not particularly bothered
Reasonable insurance, for a Male my age.
Willing to look at anything, but I think the newer the better, I dont want to buy brand new...
Reasonable fuel economy, I do a trek of 30m a day when im working. Mini gives about 38mpg, so more would be a bonus.

I'm willing to spend upto 10k, might stretch to a little more, but I want this to be inclusive of insurance.

Gonna be putting the Mini up for sale in a couple of months.. and I want something with a little more substance.. so fire away :)

Considering an R56 Cooper atm, but im really not sure!

what are you reasons for swapping? what does your current mini not do that a newer mini would do?

Well my one is that.. its a ONE, basic 90bhp model, it has quite a few extras that will help its re-sale value, but really im just genuinley after something different..

As for the R56.. im only considering it.. its not really a lot on the one.. but thats why im open to suggestions.

R56 is the newer shape Mini... the fatter one with the chunkier headlights..

ok, and what is the power output of an R56 cooper then? I seem to remember that the cooper has the same engine as the ONE, just with some funky ECU work, about 20bhp more?
If that is the case then it's basically not going to offer you anything more than your existing one, hence its seem like a crappy idea to me.

edit - Tims suggestion seems like a brilliant one, a proper hot hatch. They offer brilliant value, if only I didn't have an irrational aversion to clio's i'd have an early 172 myself.

Thats pretty much correct.. I said it was on the list only because I liked the looks.. but I havnt had a lot of cars.. hence why im asking for help..

My sisters bf has recently had a new shape Golf.. I dont think i'd get insured on a GT, but what about the 1600 ones?

The 182 I think I would struggle with insurance.. but I do like them..

golf 1.6 offers no performance increase, will probably handle worse, and as somebody who loves mini styling he probably wouldn't want one.

My car is group 2 insurance and I pay £900 a year :| 3rd party fire and theft.

That said I'm not long turned 17.

Its not that bad.. renewal is looking about £99, only paying £136 atm which isnt too bad for a 19 year old imo..

Is that per year or per month?

If per year  git!

Else...ouch.

As for a car, I'd say the best thing to do is go around dealers and look at their cars, then you can find something elsewhere that you like and can afford. :)
