Members Market? The members market is provided as a free service to active and contributing forum members.**Please read the*rules*of the Members Market before you proceed to make your first sale.*

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 1000 posts and have been signed up for at least 180 days. Once you reach 1000 posts, you will need to activate your trust. The Trust system is for Members Market feedback only and not to be used for general user comments. Abusing the trust system will not be tolerated and such abuse will result in your account being suspended/ banned. Trust activation is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.*

Once you satisfy both of these criteria, Members Market access will be granted within 24hrs. Please do not post on the forums asking why you cannot access the members market, if you have any queries, email one of the forum Dons/Admins. The contact addresses are available in the*FAQ. There is no buying, or selling allowed outside of the Members Market.

Am I allowed to ask if someone who has access can look for me? I'm not doing any harm to oc as they don't sell the 1366 mobo 's anymore lol

Ok so back to the start then, do I change board and cpu or trust an unknown board on flee bay ?

Buy a second hand 1366 board. Not forgetting that well known auction site heavily sides with the buyer especially if paypal is involved. Sellers are basically guilty until proven innocent and paypal extracts money from their accounts to pay back buyers if something goes wrong or there is a dispute. Also most reputable second hand component vendors give a 3 month warranty. You can't really lose.

Dude have you checked the prices of second hand 1366 boards on that site I won't mention. ?

They cost as much as X79 boards. Seriously, it's beyond crazy. And then you have back your working I7 920 rig. I wouldn't do it. That site cover you for 45 days. That's not long really, especially with what could be a very old board running very old capacitors.

Personally I think OP should be considering some sort of upgrade purchase. I won't mention what, or with what parts as it seems to cause argument around here but yeah, sensible hat on it's time to consider something else IMO.

Granted a lot are expensive but there are some real gems (usually from the US) for £60-80. I'd personally risk it. If nothing goes wrong in the first 45 days, it should be ok. The EVGA classified x58 also has a limited lifetime warranty if registered with EVGA so I would check with seller first.

Shame he hasn't got MM access, some bargain X58 boards recently. I would risk a second hand one as well personally, as Alex said if nothing goes wrong in 45 days you're more than likely going to be ok.

Thanks tonester rub it in lol

I'm now thinking about the 8320 with decent motherboard not sure which yet, but also a decent gfx card with it. As with a decent oc the 8320 is supposed to be amazing bang for buck, paired with a decent motherboard should give good results, the question is what's the best bang for buck gfx card to go with the above? Hmmmm time to have a look see

It is amazing bang for buck, but it's a sidegrade from a clocked i7 920.

I don't think an i5 4670K is a worthy upgrade over an i7 920, but I'd take one before I took an FX8320 over one (With the IPC and clocking, even in 8 threaded apps, you're up the arse of your i7 920 so you'll get at least your i7's current performance in a worst case, and it'll be faster in other stuff) but an FX8320 while overall faster (Going 100%), is at the limit of the software.

If you want a noticeable upgrade in terms of graphics power compared to your current setup, this is what I'd get. You could replace the R290 with a GTX780, although you won't have Mantle support (for now) with that. Bearing in mind OCUK prices for the FX8320 aren't the best at present (or for the other components). They often do weekly deals though.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-50G) £389.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
Total : £599.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

If I had 600 quid to spend, I'd much sooner do this ;

Better gaming performance, much, much better board.
Low chance of unlocking the 290 to an X.

With the sound, I've seen many of these R9 290's be able to be massively undervolted (In fact mine does -75mv at 1050MHZ) and that's quite quiet really, well, it's audible, but not that bad, and I've been very critical of the R9 290's fan speed in threads.

This to be honest!

Or buy a 2600k for brand new £190 and get a good Z68/Z77 motherboard ( Places still sell them brand new )

Wouldn't personally get a B-grade board but that's just me, although that is a fairly good board. If I were to do that, I'd just get a second hand X56 board with similar warranty and save hundreds. Agree the i5 would have better performance in poorly threaded games but I doubt one would notice much. Also wouldn't get an OEM version, retail has far superior warranty and is nearer the £190 mark.

Re: reference 290, again, for the saving you make, I wouldn't. Some have made it work well like LtMatt but on a single card solution, you want the juice from it so you'd ideally want something you can overclock a bit rather than undervolt/run stockish clocks.
