``As such, the ModXStream Pro 700w is a capable power supply at 40c, but not at 45c where we make our cutoff and there are units that do make this cutoff including OCZ's own PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750. So while the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w did not pass our parameters it certainly belongs to the group of units that were "good," yet non-passing, as opposed to the units that were just a waste of good solder.``

what's this 45c thing and does it matter here in the U.K ?.................. my room downstairs wont get to 45c and if it does, then it's way too hot for gaming anyway................they failed this unit because OCZ said that it was rated at 50c and while they were cranking up the ambient heat to reach 50c, it failed at about 44c..............

therefore this PSU is perfectly ok for me....... i think!

Depends where your psu is, mines mounted in the bottom of a thermaltake spedo and draws its air through a vent in the bottom of the case, think most higher end cases use this so it draws cold air in.

What?

The inside of the psu gets hot. That's why there's a fan there. So its hotter than room temperature.

Many of the cheap 800W supplies will output 800W fine if kept internally at 25 degrees, say in a freezer. PC power and cooling and a few others rate their supplies at 50, which should be higher than the temperature the inside of the supply reaches.

edit: fixed some of the grammatical errors

It does mean that the PSU probably isn't as hardy as those which passed the test. But I'd suspect it's only likely to become a problem if you're pushing the PSU very hard. Those tests would be done in a hot case with the PSU pushed to its maximum output, which isn't a common circumstance.
