"I don't want to get huge"

Don't think I could afford the food bill needed to get "huge", i'm currently 95kg (5'10") a bit tubby but quite strong (mostly good genes tbh), I plan to "cut" down to about 85kg see what I look like and then decide from there where I go

You can eat well for little, surprisingly!

Personally, I don't understand why you're bothered by it. I find there are more bigger chaps who seem to think they're the body building bible, who grow annoyed by those who don't understand, and feel it their personal mission to scoff at the misconceptions of others.

Hit the gym, train how you want to train, and allow others the same right. Yes they could be wrong, yes they don't understand, and yes, I don't doubt that they lack the drive to be a BB. But then, that's what sets us apart.

I used to rabbit on about the gym, now I don't say a word. My friends who train, I train with, but unless they ask for advice I let them do their own thing. My friends who don't, I have a laugh with. And never once do we talk about BBing, because most of the time, they find it boring. It's not on their list of priorities.

I feel no need to either a) judge people who have at least made the effort to go to the gym, or b) force my training ethics on others.

Ant

exactly, i get called huge by some peeps and im waaay smaller in the chest department than that guy, it always seems to be chest too, got a maximuscle flyer the other day and all the cover guys were looking great but the one thing i noticed was just how freaking huge their chests were compared to their arms. big freaking slabs of muscle, perfectly squared and even, but most arms looked about 16-17 inch max i asked my GF to look at me by comparison (which she replied well your fatter and less handsome, cheers ***) but she agreed that i was bigger than all but 2 of them but i had a comparitavley non-existant chest.

So basically the ideal cover model would train FB for about 1 year. Then eat sleep and breathe flyes and cable crosses before cutting down to about 8%bf

I'd have to agree there... annoys the hell outta me... i have a pretty strenuous workout one bugger i find is the neck... i've lost count of the times where someone who's bigger (and by that i mean fat) turns around and says you must only have a 15/16 in collar and i turn and say actually i'm 18.5/19.

Hate my arms atm as need to get them bigger currently just started pumping them in at 30k per db just to get them in proportion with my chest and shoulders.

True. The amount of dedication to the diet to get big is epensive! Chicken is not cheap!! Tuna isn't cheap either these days, I've seen a 4 pack go for £5. If you really want to get big, you'll have to be spending roughly £60-100 a week on food. I used to go through 4-5 chicken breasts a day, thats £5 just for the chicken.

This thread is awesome. :D

But then, so is the degree of idiocy and mythology within the gym!

I did Sports Science double honours and am still amazed at the discrepancy between attitudes in the gym and the actual underpinning science. But hey. If somebody wants to eat crud and "get huge" I just find that amusing. :)

Don't get me wrong, I don't judge others or even get advice. Believe me, I'm really a beginner so am in no position to give others reliable advice. However, I know enough to have a healthy respect for training. It's just that there is a small reaction inside me when I hear that statement. Perhaps it's just a natural reaction to someone demonstrating unbelievable ignorance or egotism, but I do let them get on with it without trying to educate or correct them. I think there is more ego in it than ignorance to be honest, so education is not what they are interested in - it would be a waste of breath!

£60 just on food for bodybuilding? Jay Cutler spends around $2000 a month on food... or is that a week? :D

No not just for the gym, for living etc... I love cooking, I love food, and I like good quality stuff. For 1 person I thought that was quite a modest amount - evidently I'm wrong! lol!

I don't have to worry about getting huge. I'm already hung ;)

Haha, I know what you mean.. In fact I've heard people say that they "don't bother with the legs.. it's pointless"

Crikey!

Some of the people I heard saying that usually tend to have good legs anyway and are usually runners of some variety (fell runners).

I go to the gym every day, currently just doing a cardio routine as I am seriously unfit and want to shift fat, and want to better that before going on to do weights to build muscle. Am I being mistaken in this approach?

you will look better slim with muscle than slim without. Muscle is also the bodys fat-burner. more muscle = less fat almost by default.

Aha, I see. I was planning to start weights after I had noticed a visable change. I wasn't actually aware that more muscle meant it burnt more fat, I will consider adding some things to my routine
