A friend of mine's mum took a shot of whiskey about half an hour before her test. She said it genuinely helped calm her down :)

One think I've gotta ask, was it a surreal experience taking your test for the second time? Did the examiner seem to go in to a different "mode" than the first time round?

It was very surreal. Thinking I know how to drive why am I doing this again...oh yeah 2 nips Doh!

And the examiner knew before I even got into the car that I had already passed before - Theres something like a triangle on the paper licence that lets him know I'd done it before.

Less than a month after I had my licence revoked I had it back

Scary stuff never again though!

Is it a modern car you are doing the test in? If so just press the brake pedal as hard as you can as it will most probably have abs.

true although you get a minor if the abs does kick in. Also doesnt matter about stalling on an emergency stop. As long as you recover from it safely and pull away in a safe observant manner.

Good idea actually, settle the nerves.

A teacher around 5 years ago told me a mars bar helps the concentration in the morning's so ever since i've always had one when doing something important.

Was on the lash last night, and defiently felt it this morning, but just glad i passed :)

You what? That's stupid, you want to get ABS kicking in when doing an emergency stop.

But then if you drove a car without abs you'd skid into the family of poor innocent orphans.

Isnt it 'stopping the car as quickly as possible in a safe and controlled manner'?

So if the abs kicks in you are not in control

Interesting stat... got any links?

Cheers

I'm at work at the moment, so won't have any links to hand.

I believe though, it came from an insurance company, as people who pass 2nd / 3rd / whatever time have more lessons which makes them a better driver.

Surprised by the 3rd time Merlin, goes to show you've come a long way since then ;) haha.

Strangly enough didn't get a major when i stalled at the round about !!!!

Stalling the car doesn't automatically mean a fail, it's how you react and deal with the stall. Many people panic and make dangerous mistakes after they stall, like letting the car coast, which causes them to fail.

Same here. Only losers pass 3rd time around.

If you don't pass first time you should be shot, or at least amputate your arms so you can't have a second go. We don't want you losers on the roads endangering us good drivers.

hehe, ditto. >1 chance means you're genetically incapable, or something.

j/k, bad luck matey

If the car has abs then use it, that is the quickest and most controlled way of stopping a car equipped with abs. So therefore you are 'stopping the car as quickly as possible in a safe and controlled manner'.

They just have to explain to the person learning about how a none abs car you need to do threshold/cadence braking.

Ok this is twice now.

To take the biscuit somehow I forgotten all my mirror/Signal/Maneuver, had 4 minors for mirror checks (19 minors in total) ! Damn, and a major on didn't stop fast enough on an emergency stop. Strangly enough didn't get a major when i stalled at the round about !!!!

So gutted............................my own fault, i know it how to do it, just being lazy/reckless/whatever and didn't check mirrors enough when moving off/into a junction. :(

Unlucky mate, but the things u said are easily avioded.

Heres some tips-

Whenever your going to change course, or move the car check mirrors. AND when your stopping.

Randomly check your mirrors just to show u check your mirros.

During emergency stop just push the brake down firmly lol, didnt you pratice it with your instructor?

Two of my housemates that i lived with last year had failed their tests 5 times each
I honestly think that the driving test should be three strikes rule. If you can't pass by your third go you should never be allowed to drive.

Failing once I can understand, nerves, poor luck, etc, or you're just not a good enough driver yet. Go off and practice some more or have more lessons and book another test when you've had more time to build your confidence and ability behind the wheel.

Failing a second time means that you haven't learned from the first time, you came back to early. Go and practice your driving, have more lessons and only come back when you are sure that you've mastered the control of a 1 ton lump of metal capable of travelling at 60mph. "You are not ready yet"

If, on the third attempt, you are still unable to successfuly demonstrate that you are responsible and capable enough to be given a license to drive you evidently never will.

I mean, if you take 8 go's to pass your test, that pass was obviously a fluke!
