i get middle finger when overtaking?

it depends how you make progress though

that defines whether or not you get the finger. Most dont get the finger every time they overtake because they dont take EVERY overtaking oppertunity, as sometimes its jsut not worth it.

Taking each and every one "to make progress" is what makes you unpopular with other road users and gets you the finger.

What Manface is trying to say, is dont just take that overtaking oppertunity because its there and your itching to go faster.

Think about what traffic is further up the road, is this overtake actually going to get you to your destination any faster ?

If the answer is no, then dont bother overtaking.

This is all fine and dandy but if those drivers please left a decent gap so people who do want to make progress can do so safely. We wouldn't have this situation at all.

Take for example someone behind a lorry who is quite happy to stay behind him doing 45mph yet leaves no room for someone to filter infront of them for a safe overtake of the lorry. Instead meaning the person who actually wants to make progress has to overtake 1/2 cars + a lorry at once. Creating flashing lights and the finger.

because if you overtake and dont actually make any progress you're just going to wind the driver up you've just overtaken.

Theres no point overtaking just to get one place further up the queue.

how do you know that though? I overtake one, then find out im stuckk behind a even slower driver later. How was i to know there would be a slower driver 1/2mile up the road?

Also, i do make progress, i often disapear from them in the NSL zone (20mph difference) yet they soon catch up in the 30's simply because they are 40mph everywhere drivers.

He wants to make progress in the NSL, whilst sticking to the speed limit in the 30. Sounds reasonable to me

exactly. Having been done in a 30zone through a small village/hamlet (after leaving a NSL i didnt slow down fast enough) i rarely if at ALL speed in 30s. Speeding through a 30zone that is less than 1/2mile long is just silly, and asking for points/fine. So in the NSL i may tip 70, and if caught claim i *thought* all NSL's were 70 and be terribly sorry (act dumb), but as soon as those 30s come up im down to 30.

B184 is like this: NSL, 30, NSL,40, 30, NSL, 30 NSL etc etc. Would you (Mrlol) stick behind a 40mph everywhere driver? Or overtake, "risking" holding him up in the 30zone??

How do you know? On a long trip I'll often make an overtake which in isolation can seem entirely pointless though still safe.

'Why did he overtake me, there are 3 cars ahead, how stupid!'

Then 3-4 miles down the road you get a chance to get another one or two, then finally the lead car.

I was driving behind a rover that was doing 37 in a 50 on a straight road yesterday, so overtook them with nothing coming the other way at all. He decided to give me the full beams, dazzling me for a good 5 seconds as my car is a lot lower and therefore I got full effect through the rear view mirror :(

I simply wanted to drive at 50mph because my dinner was ready on the table at home, I drove at 30mph in the 30limit, so was baffled to why the driver took it upon himself to teach me a lesson, for simply wanting to get to my destination on time at my chosen speed within the limit.

In the 350z, I've also had somebody in another Rover who lives locally decide to swerve into the outside lane to slow me down while I was overtaking on a clear dual carriageway, that was rather frightening as it was completely unprovoked and very dangerous/unnecessary considering he was driving slowly and I had a clear dual carriageway to overtake safely.

I think I've only had those 2 occasions over the passed few years though. Both local rover drivers :D

depends entirely on the road. I've seen somebody pull a rash overtake only then to hit traffic lights some 500 yards further down the road. At those traffic lights was another 5 or 6 cars which made it seem entirely pointless.

Do it if you want, but its overtakes like that, that get you the finger and road rage.

hell yeah, i've been the receiver on that one, it makes no sense, is reckless and dangerous. It was a new M3 that did it to me in London. i'm coming up to red lights,i'm off throttle hoping that they change before i get there, some nutter zooms up to me and overtakes before doing almost a emergency stop at the red lights... why?

thats the kind of thing im getting at

not trying to say you should stick behind everyone. Why does nobody ever understand my posts

Sod those plonkers! I get it now and again, usually from 30-40 guys going at 65mph in their company fleet cars! Only think I can think of is they dont like a younger guy driving a better car? Its not like I rags it, and sit on arse or flash them...indicate with plenty of time and space...weird?
