I got me a laser cutter, awesome!

Going to order my MakerBot fairly soon, thinking of going for the $750 version and then adding some decent extras such as the heated build platform, rainbow plastic pack, FDTI cable, MK5 extruder drive and spool housing. I'm probably going to swap out the z-axis threaded rods for some from Screwfix which are stainless steel and therefore less likely to have any warping in them.

Yup, That looks like it. I do that the variable laser power on the potentiometer though' which is very usefull.

They key thing with the one you linked to is the TopWisdom Controller. Do not get one without this as it is awesome!! Direct CorelDraw 11/12 or Autocad output. Makes things as easy as hitting print.

I wish I could show you the awesome things I am making at the moment but due to NDAs and other big corporation stuff I can't

One thing I can say though is "Toys"

I have been thrust into a whirlwind of potentially life changing opportunities. But then again it could fall flat on it's face. Here is hoping!

Ok a quick update.

The thing I have co-invented has put me in front of the World's largest toy maker for a video conference!

Now I am off to the USA to properly present it to them!

It is totally awesome and the laser has done very well with it all!

Wish me luck :-)

Thanks,

I really wish I could show you guys what it all is, but I can't which is a bummer, as it is the coolest stuff to come out of the laser. Even more epic than the ipod dock.

Which leads me onto who would buy one if I made them? Wood or plastic? and how much would you pay? It would be a simple stereo amp output to 2 speakers. I did make a simple mono version and it wounds awesome. The sound reflex meant that the sound came out of the front and back giving a spatial audio effect.

Here it is in wood.

Wood would be better than plastic in my opinion as it gives it some serious character. You can pick up plastic docks anywhere really, so there's no selling point to that; it's just a dock, nothing special.

I'd happily buy one but I don't happen to own either an ipod or an iphone, so it's of no use to me. It's seriously awesome nonetheless though!

Yeah wood is best, gives it a nice aesthetic and feel. I am gonna try to make one out of special MDF and laqquer it for a glossy Finnish. Plywood coats the laser head in a nasty sap and takes a while to cut.

Technically you can use any mp3 or audio player in it :-)

Tell you what would be nice; a veneer of some nice hardwood over the MDF, that'd look super. Some mahogany or teak, mmm.

Pinter75, well done. I hope it works out for you. (Make sure we can see it as soon as possible, though!)

With regards to the iPod/iPhone dock I would buy one in wood. When I read your post I was also thinking of some form of stain, wax or even polish. Give the wood some character and a lovely finish.

Are you still making/selling things from this?

Late to the party, and have seen you are moving up in the world through your other thread, but some of the things in here are freaking awesome!

I would love to have something like the Red Arrows model or the iPod dock in my room, would make a great addition!

Absolutely no 3D experience, just love how these look!

I would love the ipod dock, got a cheap one for bedroom but that wooden one would be awesome in my living room! Have you thought about adding maybe a 3.5mm jack for generic mp3? Or even a cheap clock/lcd.

Also just saw you thought about a docking station just for your charging cable, would like to see one of them maybe in black for sitting on top of my desk.

That dock uses a generic 3.5mm jack, so technically any mp3 player would fit :-)

The iPod dock is nice... but you know what would be awesome?

Do you use standardised sizes for components? Cause I would totally buy one if it allowed me to put in my own speaker cones and amp.
