As A test I grabbed a plan for a Spitfire off the interweb, quickly traced it, added some engraved detail and sent it to the Laser.

What's the strongest / thickest thing it can cut?
I can do that. I have a pile of material coming Friday.
What about slate, lasers can engrave that, that would be pretty awesome.

You do realise that you can now fab yourself most of the parts of a makerbot?
If you need any makerbotted parts then I am going to be firing mine back up at somepoint in the next 2 weeks. Its been sitting unused on a shelf. Poor thing!
I may need a couple of replacement parts making, I broke a dino for mine, and its currently holding well, but I have no idea how long it will last!

It's going to be stuck / fixed to the middle of a door maybe a glass door probably an oak framed door
Not just yet. I need to make a rotary holder. I have some spare steppers here, and the laser can cut the bits. Just need to get some rollers and stuff.
Did you buy the makerbot kit or did you diy from scratch ?
They look cool would be nice to make one on the cheap.
