So I ordered something (not from OcUk, my mistake it seems), and city link haven't delivered it yet, was scheduled for next day delivery on thursday last week.

It hasn't even moved out their collection depot yet according to their website.
Planned Delivery Date
Thursday 16th December

Planned Delivery Time
Between 07:30 and 12:00
15/12/10 21:05 These goods have been scanned at the collection Depot and are now on route to the delivery Depot.

5 god damn days later and it still says the same thing, on NEXT DAY delivery, what the hell?
I've tried repeatedly to call them, but all I get is 'we are currently experiencing a high number of calls and cannot connect you to an operator".
If I hadn't seen so many city link vans driving about I'd honestly assume they were a fictional company, because I cannot get a person to talk with to find out what the hell is going on with them.

I called at 8am sharp, and kept trying, they do not have people answering phones at city link, im convinced of it.
Apparently on thursday they've stopped deliverying to scotland altogether, but goods they collected on that day will 'be sent on as normal', so I have no reasonable expectation of getting my stuff before xmas, thanks city link.

Royal Mail delivery letter post when it been snowing - you should have used them.

Pick a delivery company, they are all having the same problems, it's all that white stuff init blud.

If it's any consolation CityLink can't deliver any of my works mail or parcels and we own them!

They are all swamped right now, as a company that sends using CL every day they have notified me that Scotland service has been suspended this week (they won't take on anything new) and all deliveries are being delivered "as soon as they can".

The driver told me that Amazon normally send 4500 consignments a day, last monday they sent nearly 40,000 and saturated the system.

Seriously, you can hardly hold the delivery companies accountable, it's a crap time of year due to sheer volume of post/packages in the system, add to that the totally ****e weather we've had.

It's all very stressful, I know, I've got xmas presents stuck/lost in the system somewhere, but that is life I'm afraid.

I have had a citylink issue as well. I can appreciate the snow and weather, but a blatant lie on their site stating they put a card through the door. I haven't received anything.

Oh well, coal and cabbage for Christmas presents this year.

They delivered on time for me (I just missed it :D) but Royal Mail, who were supposed to be sooner, didn't show until yesterday morning at 9am, so fair play to them. Sadly, I thought I'd imagined someone knocking at my door on a Sunday morning and ignored it :D

By far the worst delivery company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with, I originally started using OCUK because the retailer I was using at the time although cheaper only sent parcels via city-link and it was costing me stupid money collecting them.

This is my main grip, I live in north Wales not far from the English border, they try and deliver a package and nobody's in (they deliver between 8am-8pm on X day, that's as specific as they get), fine, does it then go:
A: To their depot in Cheshire England (10-15mins away)
B: To their depot in Anglesey North Wales (over an hour away)

Retards

What's the point in getting aggressive and angry with the consignment companies?

Not only do we have treacherous driving conditions, they are also facing a backlog from the previous weather disruptions a few weeks ago.

Is it really surprising when a package has to get collected from the retailer, sorted at a local depot, sent to a central sorting hub, sent to a regional hub, sent to a local depot and then delivered?

I ordered something from the 'Big River' company on Friday.
It's been sat at at Citylink depot in Scotland since.

I got an e-mail this morning to say that due to the weather and the fact that the backlog had now further increased as a result of it that it was now unlikely to get here before Xmas, I could have a full refund now if I wanted.

2 inches of snow are conditions that other countries manage in just fine
Not that again!

They have to every year, legislation to put winter tyres on, more equipment to cope.. Too random in the UK.

Too be fair, in my area after the initial fall they got the roads clear in 24 hours and seem to be on top of it again.

I too am waiting on City Link (ordered on 14/12).

The only thing on the online tracking is 17th Dec 2010 (05:24AM) Departure Scan @ Wednesbury West Midlands GB.

Silly website thing still says planned delivery date of today though!

Except I think the OP is in Scotland ... and Scotland gets some snow most years probably

Besides, the delivery companies can fit winter or even snow/ice tyres to their vans :)

Another sweeping generalization by Rypt!

In this country winter tyres are not mandatory so who is going to be carrying tons of stock of winter tyres, certainly the amount to outfit entire fleets of couriers.

I dunno, if the couriers order them in advance ....

The fact that we are going to get snow this winter was predicted last year, in fact the prediction for next winter is that it will be even worse.

Besides, the couriers are not alone in the blame ... councils deserve blame too, for not bothering to clear even major roads properly

Yes but why would couriers spend thousands on outfitting their fleets with winter tyres when it's not mandatory and certainly for the majority of winter in this country is unnecessary. Certainly when it's not a mandatory requirement by law to have winter tyres fitted, such as in the mountainous regions of France for example.

Councils can only work with the tools they are given.
There is still a lot of misunderstanding that people seem to think Grit will fix everything... it won't. When heavy snow comes down, the only way to clear it is with snow ploughs and JCB type machines.

This all rests really on the government having some kind of winter contingency budget that they can use to buy new equipment. As we have already discussed at length, the government is trying to save money, not spend it on things that are only needed for short periods of time, also the government change over hasn't helped things.

The only way I see that you can amend these is:

- Spend more money on snow removal equipment.
- Make winter tyres and carrying snow changes mandatory by law in Northern areas of the country.
- Make it mandatory by law that you are responsible for the removal of snow outside your own property... much like say in Canada. That way an industry can be born in this country relating to snow clearing and people paying to have it done if they don't clear it themselves.

None of the above is likely to happen, so it will just be the same cycle over and over.

Besides, the couriers are not alone in the blame ... councils deserve blame too, for not bothering to clear even major roads properly

You can't blame either for the freak weather conditions and any predictions that far in advance are mere specualtion. There is no way to accurately predict what the weather is going to do that far in advance.

At the end of the day, they are doing the best they can, but if they have got a backlog of 1000's (maybe even more, I dread to think) it is going to be a slow process...

I to am waiting for a delivery by city link. Was due to be delivered last Thursday, still to leave the collection depot.

Really hope it gets here by xmas as it is my gf's xmas pressie!!
