I have no idea how anyone puts up with Nikon

We do realize that, but we also realize that the WB can be changed with no loss of quality when shooting RAW, that the camera can be adjusted to whatever WB you prefer, and that Nikon bodies do not have an issue with auto WB - you do.

its quicker to not have to change. Anyway, I assume you are a defensive Nikon shooter.

The only cameras that produce natural looking images quickly without much PP are Canon and Fuji, in my view.

You don't have to change anything.

You are entitled to your own opinion but your opinion is not shared by a majority of other users.

Most of the people replying in this thread DON'T use Nikon.

Yes it starts with the click of a button, but if it's a monkey pressing the buttons then the results may not be too good.

How quick do you want it to be? It's a few clicks at best :D

As has been said already in a variety of manners, unless your body was defective in some way or had weird settings, the difference you're seeing doesn't mean one is better than the other. Canon and Nikon may get colours slightly different but that's like saying two different cars with different engines sound different :/

Easy way to see whether this is a global problem is just to Google it :) If it's as widespread as you think then you'll find plenty of people discussing the same issue.

Perma'd Sept 14', join date Sept 14!
Nice detective work there Derek, put me to shame there. :D

Isn't that formally twoblacklines?

Yep, twoblacklines before. Didn't even check the dates perm / joined just saw someone blaming the camera and put two and two together :p dunno if it is him though. A mod would have to check that out.

Funnily enough, to my knowledge, the nikon D5200 (camera in OP) is the only nikon dSLR ever made that hasn't used an in house or sony based sensor (toshiba sensor), so there could be some truth to your problems, albeit you've done a terrible job of getting this across.

I've never used a D5200 so can't comment on that, but have used a D50, D80, D200, D300, D700, D3 & D3s with absolutely no problem, so its certainly not an across the board Nikon problem :p Also its odd that you said Fuji was fine as the majority of Fuji & Nikon dSLR have both used Sony sensors.

It certainly does sound like a faulty camera or user error though.

yeah i was aware of that. It was an interesting thing, I thought, no one ever even knew Toshiba made sensors. But its not just them. I also found the Sony A7S needed work, and many people still prefer the D700 to the newer Nikons. The problem with all Nikons is that most of the parts arent theirs, everything is bought in, including the sensor, and they get a lot of body to body variation. Worst of all buttons and ergonomics always change, while canon are better in that regard too. 7dmk2 and 5dmk3 almost indentiical in all respects

Oh and we are all STILL awaiting some samples.

The sensor was fabricated by Toshiba based on a design from Nikon that likely uses components from Sony Exmor. Its irrelevant and has nothing to do with WB, which is detected by a separate sensor.

You probably have no idea how auto white balance works.

78 posts in and still a denial on posting examples. Troll without a doubt. (Canon user here)

To be fair i mentioned that, not him :D I like to think i know a fair bit about how dslr's work, but will admit i was under the impression the camera uses a selective area of the sensor for white balance measurement and then obviously algorithms sort out what the white balance should be after the photo is taken?

How is it done? Not trolling, genuinely interested. :)

I was trying to be neutral in my last post, but the above has proven it was pointless.
