I HAVE PROOF THAT WITH WINDOWS 10 FREE UPGRADE IS CRAP

Live chat

That is the step to talking to someone within a few minutes instead of being on the phone...

Decided to actually chat to them on the app to see what they were like and I had no real issues, I just had to explain what I meant in three different ways to get them to understand lol

But managed to confirm that when I upgrade motherboard I just need to ring the activation line with my 8.1 retail key at hand and they will generate a w10 key. I already knew this based on Glaucus and a few others but wanted to see if I could get the answer from the horses mouth so to speak

15 mins on the chat only - I was armed with EULA section quotes and quotes from members on here stating the path they took to reactivate w10 so they had nowhere to run really.

just spent 2 hour with 3 different operators on the 'help' line, had my windows 8.1 key and they recognised it, same answer each time REINSTALL

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Answer Desk and have a great day!

According to Lorraine it was because I installed a new graphics card, so MS see it as a different machine hence the need to revert and re-upgrade, going to have a lot of fun on this forum next year if they don't sort this out

SUCCESS: I typed the following to notepad and pasted it into session, straight away Window 10 Retail Key

my windows 10 deactivated after i did a firmware update on the motherboard
my windows 8 key was Key: **************************************
i had windows 10 clean installed and activated, did bios update and then it de activated
it is a full retail key
windows 10 upgrade was from within windows 8.1
it activated
i then did a clean install
and again it activated
, i changed gfx card
the motherboard had to have a firmware update to make the gfx card work
once i had updated bios and installed card windows deactivated
Error code: 0xC004C003

i had a full retail version of windows 8.1, i am entitled to a windows 10 retail key as per the EULA section 4b

also please see this link

in particular this text:
Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation.

I have been advised to re-install previously, this is unreasonable as I have a fully licensed 8.1 Retail Key I would like the same to replace the Windows 10 key that is no longer working

thank you

The graphics card should be irrelevant as the key ties with the motherboard. Very strange.

If you haven't already reinstalled, try and go on the chat/ring again only this time have the eula section 4b I think it is to hand, and also explain the process many forum members have done to reactivate windows 10 after motherboard changes.

I had this confirmed yesterday after 20 minutes so it shouldn't be an issue.

Edit: You did it!!! :) amazing.
