I HAVE PROOF THAT WITH WINDOWS 10 FREE UPGRADE IS CRAP

i wonder if MS will still give retail keys out after the first year?

Decided to give it another try. Got a lovely women on the phone who got a manager and 20 minutes later I have a fully activated windows 10 pro retail key pasted in a text document and activated. Clearly is luck of the draw with agents ;)

did they ask for your win7/8 key for proof that you have a retail license?

You make no sense, what has a year go to do with that at all.

i find your attitude bad tbh. i was asking a question hence the "?" theres no need for u to say this, a simple yes MS will give keys out even after the year.

this isn't the first time you've done this when i posted something and you said stop posting **** and then it turned out i was right.

The one year deal has nothing to do with licenses. So why you asked the question is bumusing as it isn't linked at all.
Yes right once, it was released early. And every man and his dog are saying it was released to early with to many bugs and unfinished services. With threshold 2 being released when it should have been released.

so i have no right to ask a question, just because it isn't linked at all.

that's crazy. this is a forum for people to ask questions and get answers

You have to put windows 7 or 8 back on then activate, install the 2 updates, reserve your upgrade again then update to win 10. This is only way to get free upgrade. Otherwise have to buy win 10 license.

that's only good for the first year, doing it that way.

the EULA states if you upgrade from a standalone os = retail, you can transfer win10

if/when you upgrade your hardware you'll have to contact MS and then they'll activate win10

There's no need to download the updates or reserve again. You can upgrade to 10 using an ISO as soon as your 7 SP1 or 8 is installed and activated.

The updates/reserve process was only to allow MS to preload the install files prior to release.

I have tried to update using activated windows 7 without reserving and it would not activate afterwards.

That's got nothing to do with not reserving.
Not reserved several, downloaded media creation tool and did a clean install using the option within the install to wipe everything and it's activated fine.

In case anyone else has been wondering about their existing 8.1 licence. I used this method to check licence type has retained retail status from multiple upgrades over the years from Vista to 8.0 and then 8.1

Win key + X to select Command Prompt (Admin).
Type slmgr /dlv
A short delay before a "Windows Script Host" pops up listing retail on the description line.

Well thanks to this royal cluster**** I ended up having to pay for a licence and since I don't want to go through all this again as/when/if I change hardware I bought a Retail copy. £135 just because MS decide to ****ing change everything it's beyond a joke! Plus to cap it all off I can't get Insider Builds since it keeps saying there was some issue logging me in even though I use my MS account :(

Stoner81.

Updated BIOS now not activated, 1 hour on phone to MS Indian agents, passed around 4 times and each time had to explain and told tough reinstall all previous os's, 7 then 8 then 8.1 and finally 10, so fed up
