Its pretty much, buy a board, click the components into the only bit they can fit into, run a few cables and switch on.

With the internet to hand it's nothing like the old days, where you had little support and it was far more complicated.
You'll get far more for your money, you will learn a lot and be able to troubleshoot and upgrade later down the line, and that first boot is a massive sense of satisfaction.
