I just... what?

He hasn't even opened his shirt and aimed the sparks at his chest to singe his hairs

Amateur!

No guard on the grinder.
Inappropriate footwear.
Danger of cutting through the power cable.
No gloves.
No fire extinguisher visible.
No eye protection.
Standing on the thing he's cutting lol.
Is that a corrugated asbestos cement roof?

How'd I do? lol

* No dust mask
* Hoody could fall over his eyes, obscuring vision
* Mini hacksaw lying around, just waiting to be trodden on or tangled in the power cord
* Long sleeves and baggy trousers near an electric tool with a rapidly rotating head
* Poor grip on tool
* He is a tool

- Risk of back injury
- Nothing to stop him falling off the roof if he loses his balance/slips.
- Trip hazards (on the floor)
- No ear protection

I guess the one plus is that at least he isn't working alone (presumably someone took the photo), so when he has an accident someone will be able to call an ambulance.

This was posted on the page of faces. I'm a legit believer in Darwin Awards but come on, this is making things a bit easy isn't it?

This acquaintance asked me to like his page as he's building a "rat rod pickup". The car in question is a Mondeo or something. I honestly don't know what to say :confused:

He just making a score line, he is not cutting if you look at the picture.

But No No! as cable is in the way and guard is off bad move.:rolleyes:

Them discs shatter bad if cutting! :(

I have cut flags in pumps! What is the big deal?:p

  • Posture isn't great, but providing he's not doing it for long then really its negligible.
  • Trip hazards on the floor... Irrelevant to that task. The power cable though...
  • Ear protection a must!

Stuff like this makes me rage a little though :p

^ This

Ive seen idiots using grinders on plastic before without eye protection only to need to go to A&E in absolute terror with a chunk of plastic embedded under there eyelid all because they wanted to be the " cool guy " That said health and safety used to be called common sense.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with wanting to be the "cool guy". What an utterly bizarre assumption.

It will be a matter of complacency, and that's it.

What risk to back injury is this then?

When I first saw the thread, I was struggling to see what was so bad about it. It is a bit stupid but outside of that, I assumed he was making a shallow score as well. Isn't that best practise for cutting with an angle grinder anyway?

even if he was cutting himself a hole and he get's hurt who cares, crap like that must happen all the time, worst he gona get is a sprained ancle

At some point he is going to be working around other people... and/or someone is gonna have to pickup the pieces if/when something goes wrong.

You don't have much experience with power tools I guess?

A sprained ankle if he just falls off the roof/through the roof and is lucky.

As some of the other posters have pointed out in various posts that picture is pretty much a H&S/Common sense example of pretty much everything you don't want to do when using an angle grinder (or many power tools).

I learned better than that age 13 in School when they let us near the pillar drill and fret saw.

I commented on that photo, pointing out a few of his mistakes.

It's ok folks, he's done about 50 of them and that's definitely not a hoodie.

So he's about as literate and truthful as he is competent. What a numpty. If he has done 50 (and I doubt if he has) he's so lucky that he ought to win the lottery soon.

Health and safety can get a bit silly (e.g. I needed to do a formal ladder training course to be allowed to use a 3-step stepladder at work) but that is so stupidly dangerous that it would be a perfect picture for people to laugh at in a basic H&S course. Or as a test in one - if you can't spot 10 bloody silly pointless risks in that picture, you fail the course.

Why has this not been photoshopped yet

Why bother? It could hardly be made worse.

No, wait! I have an idea as to how it could be made worse. If he was wearing high heels while doing it that would be even more foolish than it was.
