I need a game but i don't know what.....

Have you tried the Civilization games? The complete versions of both Civ III and IV are available on Steam.

Personally I can't recommend these games enough and it seems different enough from the games you have listed to be a new experience.

The Whispered World

Point and Click Adventure game.

Been looking forward to this for a while.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/18490/

That actually looks really good! certainly something different, just hope the story is good enough to keep it playing

What do you hate about TF2?

I'm not sure what it is i hate, i just get bored really quickly

Hmm i have Civ IV, i might install it again and have a play, but if i remember rightly i lost interest quite quickly last time

I think you need Mass Effect 1 & 2. :p

I wouldn't call them dragged out RPGs, but I suppose if you're dead set against RPGs then fair enough.

I agree with you on the likes of TF2, I just can't seem to play games like that for more than 5 minutes any more. :(

Edit: Tried a strategy/build-em-up game like Anno 1404 maybe?

i dunno if its my age of getting slightly older, but games dont seem to keep me drawn in like they used too.

The only game to do that recently has been wow and fable 2

pc wise oblivion maybe? there isnt much atmosphere in games anymore, its either amazing graphics no atmosphere or an amazing atmosphere bad graphics. never both.

and regarding your tf2 i think its the fact its just mindless shooting.. i kind of like it but only for a quick 30 min blast.

Im in same situation as you.. past 3 days ive been looking for a decent pc game to play havent been able to find one.

.

I do wonder if it's just a case of getting older and things arent gripping me anymore, I remember many years ago sitting infront of the TV with final fantasy 7 or 9 and playing it straight through from waking up to going to sleep, hell i could do the same thing with zelda and various donkey kong games, now though none of them really suck me in and have me wanting to play more, instead after a while i start to think "im bored now, ill go do something else"

its either 2 things.

We are just getting older and games arent gripping our "young imaginable" minds anymore.

Or the dev's arent as good as they used to be, making quick games for quick bucks.

one thing though, you arent the only one wondering same thing so dont worry.

what about the homeworld games ? they may be old be they are great rts's.
or get the sega megadrive collection for your xbox 360 for hours of old skool fun :)

Starcraft 2 will come out and your prayers will be answered.

Lol, you wish, starcraft seemed to be going the way of C&C, ie ****.

Why not pick up SupCom + FA?
You could always go back to the old favourite, Diablo 2. That can easily waste weeks.

Or it could just be gaming overload. Perhaps take a break from gaming for a while and see what happens.

I was going to come in here and point you in the direction of Whispered World but it seems I've been beaten by Gimpymoo :p

Another puzzle point and click series I would recommend would be Myst. I thoroughly enjoyed both the setting and the story so could be worth checking out. Be warned though, they are quite old games but can be got fairly easily on gog.com.

Definately not that :D in the past month the only games i've played is l4d2 and CSS (and css was only about 2 horus worth to help out the team i left when i quit playing it)

Myst was a fantastic game, loved it but sadly completed it, i couldn't get into riven but i never actually got round to trying myst 3 exile come to think of it...

Really? I thought Riven was the best of the lot though some of the puzzles were a bit obscure.

Myst III was good as well but it's best moments happen very early on. Still a good game though but doesn't really deviate from the established game style save for the 360 degree views (or maybe that was IV).

lol are you serious? Have you played the SC2 beta? The beta has been out for only 3 months and it's already balanced. Starcraft 1 took a few years to be balanced, and now it's the most competitive RTS ever made. SC2 is on the same track. After a few expansions and patches it'll be as balanced and competitive as SC1 is.

I agree with some of the other posters in the thread, just doesnt seem to be anything now which really hooks me. To be fair I have been gaming on computers since 1980, so maybe after 30 years its just all become very stale for me. Nothing seems to really wow me anymore. Sure, yeah the graphics have got better and better, but the games themselves just seem very meh to me now.

I have actually played on my PC less so far this year than any year previously. On top of that I look over the "coming soon" sections of various websites and the only title there which even gets a tiny glimmer of interest from me is Diablo 3.

Not really sure what it is I want from a game, but I do know that nothing is really holding my interest anymore for longer than a few days. Just all seems so done before a hundred times.

I too would agree with this. 20 years of gaming here and I think I have seen most everything now. I still play games hoping they will give me the rush that they once used to, but it just doesnt happen.

You also raise another interesting point. Graphically games look great now, but the gameplay is usually lacking. When 3D graphics cards first game out there was a big fuss about graphical quality vs gameplay. Now hardly any reviewers seem to care and it is all about how "pretty/fancy/whatever" the game looks like.

I am not even looking forward to many other games in the future. Starcraft was one of the earliest games to hook me for months, but I have little interest in SC2. Mass Effect 3 should be good, but mainly because I have really enjoyed the story of 1+2.

I guess I have just burnt out. Maybe I need a few months off gaming.

Edit: Forgot, I am looking forward to F1 2010 :D

At the moment im very glad i bought the codemasters racing pack, loving playing through GRID again, forgot how much i enjoyed that game (which is very surprising as i don't generally enjoy racing games of any kind...except mario kart)

Still though, once that loses it's appeal im going to be stuck again, beat hazards good when im bored for just having a quick blast on, same as audiosurf, but certainly neither are long term games and only pass a few minutes...

I guess i won't have to worry much longer, about 9 weeks and i won't get to play computer games anyway as i'll have a baby to take care of :p

honestly mate as i said earlier i suggest you try mount and blade warband, it's a very unique experience nothing springs to mind that is even vaguely similiar
