Just purchased a new rig from you guys.

These are the specs:

Motherboard - Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
Memory - 2046MB RAM
Hard Drive - 160 GB
Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT ASUS
PSU - Coolermaster 700W
Operating System - Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

HDD and DVD drive are using SATA.

I have built it and it all works sweet, except for one thing...

When i press the power button it begins booting, then it turns off. Starts booting again and gets a little further, then turns off again. Then it starts again and gets a little bit further. Sometimes it does it twice some times it can be five or six times...
Then when it does get to windows, I sometimes get a BSOD. I haven't managed to read it yet...

I really wanna fix this, I googled a bit and I read something about IDE voltages and stuff, but i'm using SATA...

Please help
Much Appreciation

What RAM exactly (make/model), and what is the memory voltage in the BIOS set to? Defaults? Some motherboards undervolt RAM by default causing instability and need to be manually bumped up to the correct level. Also what motherboard model exactly?

ahh thanks a lot, now were getting somewhere

Removed links :\

I haven't changed any of the voltages, so It must be default.
How will I know what to change it to? And what should I change it to?

Thanks a lot.

Carefull thats a secure URL to your basket lol.

I would raise Memory to 2.1v in Bios for now and see how it goes, if it boots go from there and get proper volts for that model but 2.1v is safe.

I changed it to 2.1 and I got it again.

2.2 and it works...

Is that dangerous?
it said like 2.4 2.5 etc was harmful

Will i be okay with 2.2v?

I dont know your Mobos bios so cant tell you settings.

The FSB is the speed you set CPU to, your CPU has a 1066mhz FSB but its Quad Pumped so its really 266mhz but the DDR speed would be 533mhz and the DDR speed of your Memory should also be 533mhz to be In Sync with CPU FSB (with out overclocking).

This all should have happened by default but the fact you need 2.2v to run stock makes me think otherwise.

I will try setting it back to 2.1 volts.
It's getting late now.
I'll try more tomorrow.

I am eventually gonna overclock, need to get this fixed first.

Thanks a lot guys.
I'll post again tomorrow.

Had one last try.
2.1V gives me worse than the normal voltage. With it I just get the BSOD all the time, it doesn't boot up further.
2.2V boots perfect.

well im not sure actually if it is 2.2V

its +0.3V of the norm?

Ill look up this FSB thing tomorrow

I have a Gigabyte DS3R and the default voltage for the RAM is 1.8v. My Crucial Ballistix needs 2.2v so a value of +0.3v is fine. What RAM and board do you have? Check what the RAM default voltage is.

You've still not told us your actual make and model of RAM and motherboard. If you do, we can give you more exact advice. +0.3V would be 2.1V on many modern motherboards. Some/Many RAM sticks require 2.1V to function properly (some even more.) However, some board/revisions of boards actually overvolt RAM from what they alledgedly are set to, so be careful. We really need to know the exact model of RAM and motherboard.

Thats was me lol, its not your basket now but still the Secure website to buy items.

Not sure why you keep geting that, must be cookies.

Now I can see you have 1066mhz Memory and its good upto 2.4v, but seems you needed 2.2v ( now your ok on 2.1v ? ) for you to even run Stock.

I would check and see if Mobo Auto set it to 1066mhz and change it down to In Sync with your FSB which is 667mhz (with no overclocking).

Hi, (sorry if this has been mentioned before) :

The IP35 chipset motherboard can suffer from 'double booting' which is what you have described (where the thing turns on then off then on again etc). Asus have solved this with recent bios updates and Abit claim to have solved it with bios 14 (but some still have trouble). I'm not sure about your particular motherboard. Might be worth seeing if there is a more recent BIOS available.

Also, as mentioned - check your voltages as some OCZ need higher than motherboards will give at default.

Hope this helps.

This problems is still occuring :\

I changed the voltage to 2.1V which is correct for the RAM
+0.3 of the boards 1.8V
But the problem still persists.

I turn on the computer and it boots up a bit then powers of then begins booting a bit, then it does this once or twice more before getting to windows, once in windows I get a BSOD(it comes and goes to fast to read) and it turns of. Then when I turn it on the net time, It goes on properly. Sometimes some startup services don't work and I have to reboot though.

What is this FSB thing and how would I go about changing it?
Or could it be something other than the RAM causing this?

Sync with your FSB which is 667mhz
On the ram page it says 1066?

or am i completely confused???
