I need HELP!!(7200.11 users!)

The story, I turned my PC off yesterday windows 7 installed one or two updates. I slept. Woke up, turned the PC on saw a message saying insert boot device.

I'm using the 1104 asus bios with a 1tb barracuda , I checked to see if the drive is recognized, it isn't. I'm only able to see my DVD drive, can someone give me steps to troubleshoot the drive??

Thanks in advance,

Uh-oh. Head in the sand :p
Been all over everywhere for the last few months!
This'll get you started..

Thanks for that...

I'm always 'looking after' my drive's i.e defragmenting & cleaning, but I never think about drivers, to me updates and drivers are Graphics, Mobo and CPU.

I think I've learnt my lesson, judging by the complexity of the fix. WOW!!

Nah IMO you shouldn't have to worry about firmware updates for hard drives; they're just there for storage for me anyway. Sure if it gives you performance boosts it might be worth it but I don't have hard drives for performance, SSD is where that's at, whereas graphics you want the best performance every time you play a game so driver updates make sense, plus easier to do than firmware updates.

Just keep an ear out for this sort of big screwup by the manufacturer, and keep data backed up!

Last back-up was about two months ago. was going to do one at the weekend :(

Anyway has anyone actually had this problem if so how did they fix it??

IIRC Seagate were offering free recovery through one of their subsidiaries, so that may be something to look into.

As far as backups go though, I've been using something called Jungledisk to great effect. Backs up onto an Amazon S3 account so you pay pennies per gigabyte per month and it's all backed up offsite. I have about 25GB of important, cannot be lost, files backed up on mine (family photos and the accounts from my business). Costs me about £4 a month all told.
