I need some serious help on Oblivion. Is my character ruined?

Basically I contracted the Vampirism disease. I didn't know I had it until sunlight started hurting me, so I was pretty far into the stages of the disease.

I started the Vampirism quest and so far I have gotten as far as seeing the witch who lives by the river. Obviously I've needed to time all my runs to her and all my runs around the Oblivion world, I can only ever do anything at night time, which really sucks. In order for me to receive the cure from her I need to get her 5 Empty Grand Soul Gems.

I have looked at guides at they have told me that I can purchase these soul gems from any good Mage Guild store. That's all good and well but I am so far into my disease now that no one wants to barter with me. I then tried the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City, but they are also too scared to speak to me.

I really want to get rid of this disease as it's ruining the game for me, I just want to explore freely.

Does anyone know where or how I can acquire these Grand Soul gems? I've been told they are also in certain caves, but which ones?

Thanks.

I haven't done the vampire quest myself, but if you feed, doesn't it reduce your characters vampire appearance, therefore allowing you to barter with NPC's ?

You need to feed on someone who is asleep

There are a few in the lobby of the arcane university you can steal, but you need to be able to pick very hard locks (but with patience and loads of lock picks it can easily be done)

Just fed on the woman who gave me the quest. Now npc's speak to me so I went and bought the grand soul gem at the mystic emporium in the imperial city, but he only sells 1! Arghh! I checked the mage guilds but none of them sell the soul gems like the guide said.

i loved the Vampirism thing :p was very useful mid game and was kinda cool timing things around it, mite install oblivion again.

The grand soul gems are a *real* pain to get hold of... I'd just carry on as you are, feeding frequently ;)

Gem One: This is an easy one. Go to the Imperial City Market District. Find the Mystique shop. He has one gem for sale. Four to go.

Gem's Two - Four: Your lock picking skills better be up to snuff now. Head to Arcane University. Best to go at night, you will be thieving. Go inside, and on the first floor there is a chest with three Gems inside. All are Grand gems, but I believe two of them are not empty. Take them all anyways. You can empty them if you have a staff or magic item; otherwise they have a decent resell value. Its a level 5 lock, so your going to have to work at it, but its worth the effort. Make sure no one sees you. Once you get it open, take them all.

Gem Five: Head to the Chorral Mage's Guild. Inside, there is a staircase, and display cases to the left and right. The one to the right looks tempting, three gems inside. None are grand though, save your picks. The one the left has one though. It's another level 5 lock, so good luck to you. Once you get this, you have five, but two probably aren't empty. No matter, the hard part should be over.

hope that helps

The gems are only the start anyway aren't they? I played through the game with vampirism and decided to find the cure once I'd finished the main quests. I seem to recall at some point you are required to find something from the planes of Oblivion, real pain in the arse since I'd already closed all of the gates.

Yup, bloodgrass. Luckily I already have loads of it.

Go on the Skeleton key quest if you don't like lockpicking/can't afford enough picks.

Unbreakable lockpick for the win!

Other than that, plenty of tomb hunting turns up grand gems once in a while
