I need to break a PC

To kill

Pour water in it?

Set fire to a capacitor or pull one (or maybe a few) off the motherboard?

Give the CPU and good licking?

To kill ( ;) ) and then fix.

Just take out a RAM stick/just take it out a bit so its looks like its still in the slot but it actually isnt, really easy to fix.

Sorted with a simple solution? Sounds like your not trying to rma that which was not first broken then?

Sounds like you want to make your self look like you can "fix" a pc?

Um you could always make it so it wont post by screwing the overclocking on the ram or cpu up so it will crash when it gets into windows.

It is nothing sinister, it is a test and has to be fixed within 10 mins. The RAM out of the slot is something I have thought of.

What sort of test? Your being very discreet lol.

I say just overclock it soits unstable and crashs at boot up and then reset the cosmos. Thats like a 5 second job.

Insurance claim . . . . :p

how about putting 2 drives as master on the same IDE channel, or limiting it via the 32gb jumper (Assuming IDE, and it has one).

As title really! I need to break a PC and then the problem sorted with a simple solution.

Suggestion please.

flick voltage switch from back of your psu to 120v from 240v (if you is european). the psu will blow up.

and ot fix the problem, just buy another psu. simple method of breaking pc, and simple method of fixing pc.

- Unplug the 4 pin power and stash it away out of sight, pray any inspection is by a fool.

or

- Do what I did stupidly, install an Antec spot fan in the top right hand motherboard screw hole so that the metal bracket bridges two legs on a nearby chip. Except you won't have to panic, sweat buckets, make random forum posts and swear a lot while you work out what it is.

What about the rest of the pc? Surely tahts not going to like having such a jump in volts?

in the job interview they want u to break it then fix it? Surely you can do raelly stupidly easy thinsg then like pulling ram out then back in again. How pointless.

How about move the CMOS jumper to the "clear" position. It won't boot then :)

Alternatively disconnect the power switch.

meh, if it kills his pc thats ok, he can;t come online and complain then :D

i remeber doing something like this for my cisco ccna exam, go into room and network is working, then i leave room, the examiner woudl shaft the network somehow, and i would then enter the room and fix it.

The only thing, it has to be as if it has just happened and no one has had access to the inside of the PC. Unless it has been dropped in transit etc. Changing the BIOS settings is a good one.
