I really don't know what to say...

I think its more to do with if a cyclist hits a car and lies in a pool of his own blood with at least one limb pointing the wrong way and the car driver steps out of his metal shield unscathed, 50/50 doesn't seem particularly fair.

;)

Seems perfectly fair if the cyclist contributed to the accident. Why should the outcome of an accident have any bearing on the blame?

So, when the cyclist jumped up from the road onto the pavement to find me sitting on the edge of the driveway trying to get onto the road to get to work, smacked into my front left wing and went over my bonnet...

...It's my fault?

Nice.

The ;) was to indicate that my post was supposed to be tongue in cheek.

You honestly think I'd agree with the proposal? I do a fair amount of cycling and I think its nonsense. If that was law I would just crash into the first car I saw everytime I fancied a new bike - the drivers insurance can pay. Spot of compo to pay for my luminous lycra shorts.

I can't believe the amount of people that are so willing to risk serious injury for a bit of money if this law came in.

Next time you see a pothole, why not jam your foot in it and break your leg - you could be a few thousand quid up from the council - all you have to be is in severe pain and unable to work for several months.

You could even go further, next time you see that someone has left a cardboard box at the top of the stairs at work, 'trip' over it and throw yourself down the stairs - sure you might end up as a quadraplegic, but at least you'll be ££££s in!

My wifes uncle fell off a curb blind drunk and chipped a bone in his arm. Got a few grand in compo having managed to prove the curb was to blame not the all day drinking session. Clearly not deliberate but clearly shows how the system can be well and truly shafted.
