I sold it.......and bought something else...

First place I went, the petrol station :D

Seems good though, really nice to drive.

30mph in 2nd is a 1000RPM, for example. It's that bonkers :D

Yeah bet it pulls when you put foot down. :p

How much was it? And you get insurance quote, how much?

It was only an extra 150 quid on my insurance (up from the V8 Sprint, at 450 quid FC) :D

Pennies, well, not as many as you'd probably think :) A lot of car and performance for the money.

It's an L98 Smallblock as far as I'm aware.....447NM of torque as standard, or in proper speak, 330ft.lb.

Ah. There were two GM motors with the L98 nameplate - one is an engine from the current Gen IV (LS) family, one is a tuned-port injection of the Gen I family which will be the one you have.

Yea, it's definitely a tuned-port. It's a shame it's not a 6 speeder but the 4+3 all works very nicely, so I'm not complaining. They have a bit of a rep but this is a sweet one.

Could do with a shift kit though, bit long throw.

First left-hooker I've had.........

So, what do these engines respond well to? It's got a sports exhaust...

I hear filter & intake mods are a good, reliable way to up the ante.

Bah, it's a 'vette - they're only small. LHD is no issue at all :)

I'll dig through my pile of notes and see about mods for Gen I SBCs. What's been done so far to get it up to 290 horsies, as that would be several more than stock?

Well, drive it like it's about to kill me tomorrow.......See how I get on with it and familiarise with it....

Thing is, I bought it because it's all done, working and spot on - so I could just drive it and enjoy it.

As such, any stuff I do will be mostly bolt on - but I do need to get the tape deck working, as it's not connected - just replaced.

Fettling only.

And maybe nitrous, because I've still got the system :D But not for a while, it's a bit quick anyway!

I'm not sure - I know it has a full sports system, whatever that entails. I'm aware that's quite over stock, so I'm taking it down my local RR and having that fired up to see what's what.

I think the fuel pressure has been upped, for one.

The funny thing is, being LHD you'd think "yea, great for parallel parking" - but you can't see over the sides of it :D

You haven't lived until you've tried to parallel park an Oldsmobile station wagon in Burton town centre....equal parts amusement (at the sheer awkardness of the job) and terror (when considering the amount of damage you might be about to do to some poor sod's car)!

Your engine - if it really is making 290 horsepower, then it must have had something more than a better exhaust and the wick turned up on the fuel delivery. SBCs are easy to liberate more power from, but not that easy :)

Well, all being well, I should know for certain by the end of this week :D

I'll have to see if I can dig the numbers off it, just in case anything's changed down there :) (fnaar)

Wow, thats gorgeous, id buy one in an instance if I had the mechanical knowledge to back it up, I may do this myself when im older.

How much does one of these set one back if you don't mind me asking, and what are the running costs/parts prices like?

Well, they're pretty bulletproof in fairness and not hard to work on. Everything's quite easy to get at and not much should go wrong.

The only real main point of contention is the electrics.....Which are, well, American. Next question :D

You can get a real tatty one for about 3k, or a really nice one for about 5-6k.

Running costs are well......I'll find out! Shouldn't be bad though, lots of Corvette specialists in the UK and support from the states.

Only really nasty bit is rear wheel bearings - sealed hub assemblies, so cost 300 quid to just replace a bearing, effectively.

One of the reasons I got this one was because it's had everything done - new service, new tyres, refurb'd wheels, the works :)
