I think it's broke

I've done one better than that! In my 2.0 Sierra Sapphire (SOHC) years ago, I was going to go from 5th to 3rd and somehow got it in 1st (thought it was a bit crunchy)! There was a split second of far too many revs before I realised what i'd done. Luckily I pulled it straight back out of gear, and the engine was fine. :D

Haha!

Did you put your foot down to accelerate though? :D

Luckily not, I think it hit the rev limiter once, not that that would've stopped any damage! :D

lol, mine went way past the rev limiter! Mine went to 6.8krpm at the rev limiter but this sounded like something else! Probably something around 9k!

I believe agw did the exact same thing - I'd try getting in touch with him.

Nick, nope I've never over-revved an engine.

I did miss the gear while changing from 2nd to 3rd which did kill the box though :)

Thanks to all that have helped me!

I have looked into it further and I am beginning to belive that the bottom crank (should be TDC?) is on the TDC mark and the top cam sprocket thingys are not lined up.

I canot be sure that it is on the TDC mark as the engine needs to be dropped down slightly to see the marks, this will be happening later today or tomorrow (when the rain stops!)

Thanks to all, Doug.

If the timing has slipped, then it's worth just fitting a new belt and getting the compression tested. However, it doesn't take much of a slip to get bent valves so the head may have to come off anyway.
