I want a sequential gearbox!

So why are these "throttle bodies" all the rage?

Irrespective of the legality of the lads driving, it sounds very touring car esque.

Wouldn't want it in a 106 but each to their own.

They are the modern equivalent of twin 45 Webers.

More power, fantastic induction noise.

I saw that car at Castle Combe last year, and it is genuinely quick, it's packing just over 200bhp IIRC and is stripped out with lightweight body panels. It's also running a decent LSD and suspension setup. It's a well setup little car that has had silly money spent on it. Not that I would have done it all to a 106, but it is a well done little car, and infinately better that the countless chavved up 106s that are around.

As for his driving, I don't see anything particulary dangerous. He's getting on the power mid-bend using his diff to pull him round, I see no 'twitchyness'. As for using the whole road, again no problem with that if the road is clear and you have good visability. Infact they actively teach you to use the whole road in advanced driving courses AFAIK.

The first thing I thought was that was packing a hell of a lot more power than a normal 106 gti when I started watching it. Anyone who said 'seems slow' has obviously never been in a normal one ;), that one flies. Got bored after about a minute of watching that tbh. While I wouldn't have blown all that money on a little car like that, it is one of the best handling cars ever made so I can kind of understand some nutter going all out on it.

I am at the age where I must have refinement along with power (Still miss my old Nur spec R sooo much every time I hear a scooby with one on instead of my little girly revolution one :()

Its got about 210bhp from a N/A 1600cc. Its coming back soon with carbon doors, carbon roof and a 2 litre 307 touring car engine with around 350bhp and should be 100kilo lighter.

Anyone who thinks that car is anywhere near slow is a genuine retard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz4WBKz4rPI imagine it with over half the power again and less weight.

Gearbox is a sadev sequential if anyones bothered.

mmmmmmmmmmm carbon

Seems rapid but the downshifts sound horrible. Shouldn't he be blipping the throttle?

The downshifts in the video which spaz linked to above sound much better.

I don't see why people are complaining about him using all the road(not that he uses it all anyways, just half the car over the lines) and I wouldn't particularly say that he is being dangerous as the road looks quite empty and not very complex with good visibility.

looks like a really fast car but what the hell is going on with his downshifts? I hate that slurring engine sound while downshifting without heel&toe, not only does it sound bad but it's lunching the clutch.

Downshifts are fine? :/ It's not like he needs to H+T anyway as the downshifts are so fast on a sequential... and he isn't approaching a fast sweeping corner either where he needs to worry about weight balance.

The slurring is just run-over in the gearbox amplified by the fact it has straight-cut cogs.

Looks like a right little hoot to me! :D Although I don't fancy his gearbox servicing bill after about 6000miles...

you should still blip on downshifts though.

How can you blip? A sequential box is providing constant drive during the up/down shifts. So there is no "neutral spot" anywhere in there where the engine revs are allowed to drop off. So there is no need to blip the throttle to keep the revs up during downshifts. In fact doing so will only make you go faster with a sequential box - which is probably not a good thing if you are downshifting for a corner :D

That's just racing... :) nothing to do with the gearbox needing it :) He could race without blipping but his balance may not be as good and lap times would be slightly worse... It's all about keeping the driven wheels in a relative constant mesh with the engine speed. Too much engine speed change results in the wheels quite literally locking (or wanting to lock) and therefore increased tyre wear and unbalance the car going into a corner.

exactly what i thought when i watched it

messy, esp if he was going to try down changing like that whilst really going fast

It's a quick car - the work he's done to it has really worked well, besides it sounds great and that seq gearbox is fantastic. IMO that's not really a chav car at all - it's genuinely been modified by someone who is keen on mechanics and actually driving the ****ing thing like it's meant to be driven. I see he also seems to do track days - and I bet that car is a monster on a track.

A lot of haters in this thread - from generally people who consider themselves petrolheads yet seem completely clueless to this sort of enjoyment? :dunno:
