i have the megaworks 250d 2.1 speakers and am looking to upgrade.

the sub on these i find is terrible in dvd's etc.

i dont see the point in 5.1 or 7.1 so i'm after a good set of 2 speakers.

i turn the sub down to nill on these speakers, rumble is crap imo.

i have looked at these:

Creative Gigaworks T20 2.0 Speaker System - Retail (SP-069-CL)

any good? or is there better ones for the money? will pay more but like the fact there's no sub with these.

needs to be easy to set up please.

cheers lads

If the difference between the 2.1 Megaworks and 2.0 Gigaworks is similar to the difference between the 5.1 Megaworks and the 5.1 Gigaworks, then it probably isn't the best way forward. Neither is the Logitech. The Gigas are very nice, but so are the Megas.. I suspect that you will need to go hi-fi really for the next step up. Or nice headphones.

I use the Logitech Z2300 set with an X-Fi extreme music card....pretty awsome...and seriously loud!

dont suppose you have heard the megaworks? how do they compare..?

these are load but i like clarity. not saying these are bad , but the sub is hardly used cause it's abit crap.

not heard the gigaworks, but was only thinking of these new 2.0 ones because of the fact there's no sub and they are supposed to have a good range.

hifi might be a little big for on my desk?

headphones i'm not into , dont really like them on.

thankyou all for your help, keep up the good work.

sorry...havent heard the megaworks. However....what you need to do is google for some reviews. The Z2300's did have the rep of being the best 2.1 system available for a PC last year....this may have changed...I'm not sure.

"but the sub is hardly used cause it's abit crap."

I dont think this is the case....Im sure anyone else that has the 2300s will verify they are an awsome piece of kit!

read reviews dood!

i have a set of z-2300's and an x-fi and they really are brilliant. there is some boom on the sub and i found that it has to be positioned really carefully for the best sound. it is stupid loud, 120w rms might not sound like a lot but its completely pointless in a house :D . The other good thing is there is relativley low distortion when at full volume; sign of quality.

the aego are without a doubt better sound quality for MUSIC but for GAMES i would prefer the z-2300 partially because of the subs ability to create a good atmophere (atrillery and gun fire, helicopters etc) over the somewhat timidness of the sub of the aego.

the most fun ive had out of the z-2300's is putting Lose Yourself on with full bass, sounds stunning.

The Z2300's sub is crap and boomy! I was shocked when I heard it, even turning it right down didn't solve the problem.

The Aegos have got rave reviews, but I've not heard them myself.

You can get compact hi-fi speakers, but if you don't have much space they may be out of the question. Have a look at www.richersounds.co.uk and see what takes your fancy. If the speakers are too big, then so be it. You'll be looking at bookshelf speakers btw.

Those two would give the cheapest, most compact system that they offer. Unless you go for the Acoustic Solutions amp *shudder*. Cables would have to be bought separately, but aren't that expensive, £10-20 for reasonable ones, you don't need to go overboard.

Look into the second hand market for massive savings and a much better sound. I know not everyone is willing to do this, but hi-fi is normally very well looked after and it's very easy to spot when it's not working properly.

Old Rotel amps offer very good value for money and are a very highly regarded brand.

Matblack has an amp like this and he loves it.

There are all sorts of old Technics, Sony, Rotel and Marantz amps going on the bay and other sites. If they're advertised as working and look in good condidion, then go for it.

Speakers, look for brands like KEF, Mission, Wharfedale or even old B&W speakers.

Those look like a bit of a bargain, but obviously the price will rise a bit. Again, if they're advertised as working there is nothing to worry about.

As with everything, being boxed is a very good indicator of the kit having been looked after.

I hope you'll at least consider buying a hi-fi now that I've typed all this!

tom....there is no doubt that Hi-Fi is better....but unless I had my PC in a room where the Hi-Fi system was close....I would not use it for my PC. Also takes up more space.
It depends on what you want really.....good sound from your PC...or just good sound anyway possible. The sound you can get from a set of good speakers and a good sound card now is excelleent without having to buy Amps etc.

even my 15" 1400w sony xplod sub in my car with 200 £ amp sounded boomy at first, youve got to wear them in first before you can judege them.

i also think that comparing hi-fi equipment with pc speakers is pointless as well

aslo i have a quick question, are the aego's true hi-fi?

Aegos aren't true hi-fi I wouldn't say.

Why is it pointless comparing PC speakers and hi-fi? The amount some people spend on PC setups (which have got a lot better in past years) is incredible and could buy a decent hi-fi setup.

As for the proximity to the speaker setup, as I said above, the amount some people spend on PC speakers, you might as well buy another hi-fi. In the case of a bedroom setup proximity shouldn't be a problem. Space would probably be the limiting factor.

Why should there ever be a compromise from your sound just because it's coming from your PC? Agreed you shouldn't spend £1000's on a PC speaker setup used just for games, as it would be pretty pointless. However for general use a hi-fi setup will perform better! PC speakers are good, but their sub/sat design will always be a bit of a let down sonically.

I personally have to disagree.....I have a few mates that have run their sound through their Hi-Fi systems....and to me (this is a personal feel) it doesnt give you the same effect as having two 'THX' PC type (and they have to be good) speakers a meter eigther side as you when gaming. If you have the space...go for 5.1 cos the goods sets are majic but I cant be bothered with all the wires going all over the place. It sounds very much crisper and realistic. I also play most of my music through my PC now....and I think it sounds just a good as a descent hi fi system. Thats my opinion..only.

thankyou very much all for your help , will consider hifi setup, like the jml ones you linked me to .

it's a pity you have to have an amp, would be ideal without. what about the 2.0 set on overclockers by creative, will this be crap?

tbh my speakers are considered good for pc ones , but i just fancy some with better range, like the lack of sub on the creative 2.0 ones..

how much of a difference will i get from them jml speakers conpared to mine?

better in everything?
