Hello,

I am new here and I wanted to get into modding as I love building PC's in my free time, I am really bad with cable management and I was thinking modding cases will aid me into making stuff easier and cleaner..

What tools do you recommend me buying and do you have any guides or tips I should know?

best of regards,
Nick.

Just have a look at the build threads on here, there are some top quality builds around.

Cable management is easy really, just hide the cables, cutting holes where needed.

The tools you'll need differ with what you're trying to do with them. Just chose some nice easy mods to start with, and if you're stuck just reply in this thread and ask for help. :)

DREMEL
100 piece DREMEL KIT
DREMEL MOUNT
DREMEL torch
Magnifying lamp (by DREMEL)
some other DREMEL Parts

and a drill .. and a angle grinder ... and a work bench,
a heat lamp for sleeving...

errrrrrmm .. ... OH .. AND A DREMEL !!! ... did i say that already ?

I'm sure you already know there are quite a few project logs here in this very section of the forum. The tools you will require will depend on what you wish to do and how dramatic a change you intend making.

A dremel, assorted cutting discs, sanding discs, polishing discs.

A jigsaw perhaps.

Terminal extractor tools for braiding your wiring.

Spray paint and primer perhaps.

Sandpaper. A Mouse sander perhaps.

Drill and various sized bits.

Rivet gun and rivets.

Soldering iron.

Just stuff off the top of my head.

Be creative :) and welcome to the forum.

Look at builds and take inspiration/ideas from them.

Try not to copy. Difficult i know, but add you own touch to a build.

There is a wealth of modders here that can help you out

Thanks for all the replies, I didn't expect so many so quick.

Can you use dremels for cutting shapes for cable management?

I am from UK, London and I have tried researching on dremels and it seems most good models are from the US?

Can someone link me to a good dremel/tools from a UK site?

I got a £600 budget for tools and £2.4k on components.

Dremels are for cheats.

If I were you I'd blag a free, rubbish old system to practice on. Just chop it to pieces, spray it, overclock it etc.

Good idea, I got my old system (antec 900) to work on.

why are dremels for cheats? aslong it gets the job done I'm not bothered ;)

Because they're little and fine and tidy and take no skill to handle. :P

All of my mods so far have been done with a 5" angle grinder, a 25mm hole saw and a 13mm drill bit, and they're neat! Sort of...

Pics of the Antec 900 Mr OP, then we can tell you what needs doing. :P

Bare in mind this pc was built 4 years ago and was my first ever build and I want to improve my skills on my next build.

I am not joking, I want to buy tools so I can start modding as I love making things look nice even though I sucked at DT at secondary school but I didn't take anything serious back then..

You know you can hide all those cables behind the Motherboard right?

The panel will be hard to snap back in but just grab a couple of extra screws and it should hold it in place fine like if there's nothing there.

I see a lot of people have trouble dealing with the Antec 900 but it's really not a hard case to cable manage with.

Even if you can't get the panel back in, you can always hide them underneath the HDD cage instead of having them over the motherboard.

Why are people doubting me in this thread, all I want to do is learn abit more..

Yeah it was my first build so I struggled just finding what went where so hopefully I will clean that up soon

Is it possible making a circle with a dremel with just pressing it on?

I am thinking of buying the dremel 4000? anyone have any experience with it/

Yeah just press it into the metal and it will make a hole the same size as the disc you are using. If you need a big hole, say for a 120mm fan then you're going to need a bigger disc, perhaps one from an angle grinder. Or maybe you could make your own by cutting discs out of steel sheets and then drilling a hole through the middle of them...oh wait...

What you really want is one of the new digital dremmels as they can be programmed to cut any shape.

So I don't need a drill/Hole saw? the dremel does it all?

Can you link me? apparently Dremel 4000 is the most powerful around at the moment.

hi nlr, welcome to the Forums

you dont need to spend 600 boys on tools.

that is crazy talk!

i have a £40 dremel that i got from B&Q
its their cheapest one and it does the job well.
