I want to get into Modding.

case cutting:
-dremel and tools
-hole saw and drill: gives a cleaner cut
-u channel molding
-spare screws rubber grommets
-scotch tape - helps when you make a mistake and to mark out the cut
-good pair of gloves, goggles and respirator

elecrical work:
-solder
-flux
-soldering iron
-"extra hand" tool
-prototype board
-wire strippers
-wire connectors and crimps
-electrostatic wrist strap (if mucking around with sensitive electronics and general motherboard and part handling

General items:
-tape
-double sided sticky foam
-zip ties
-fan, case and hard drive screws
-spare fan and covers
-rubber fan mounts/simmilar
-spare powersuply (for testing)
-safety goggles, electrostatic wrist strap
-some sturdy hand tools (files, coping saw etc.)
-engineers toolkit - come packed with useful tools
-somewhere to put small parts so you don't loose em
-beer
-a good imagination
-practice, patience and spare time

these are the things id most reccommend, not everyone will use them but, depending on what mods you wish to do it will always vary. i am supprised nobody mentioned zip ties for cable managment though...

I would also recommend reinforced cutting discs.

That is unless you don't mind busted discs flying at your face every time they break.

that in mind eventually i find flying reinforced cutting discs flying at me - good eye protection is the best defense - or a facesheild but thats a bit OTT

My fail attempt

The cutting discs I got with my dremel are **** and I can snap them with no effort.

Where do I get proper ones?

Apparently I should have pre drilled holes which would have helped the wobbling and I used the wrong cutting discs..

I guess we learn from our mistakes..

Next time i'm going to use the holesaw and then join the circles up..

Look for "Dremel 541 Aluminium Oxide Grinding Wheel"

They wont break and they'll last a while, also don't throw them away when they get small, you can use em for small cuts.

Do you lot have your own tools and equipment?
Because it must have been really expensive to buy a solder iron, jigsaw, grinding wheel etc.

I'd like to do some LED modding as seen in the stickied tutorials but I cant afford to buy a solder iron and the rest, would be cheaper for me to buy 4 LED'd fans instead.

You can pick up a soldering iron for about a fiver if you know where to look. It won't be very good of course but will do the job.

As for dremels and other tools just get what you can when you can.

to be honest, you haven't measured, masked with tape and haven't really prepped, fail was imminent.

Not having a go cause I did the same first time ;)

so masking tape up the area , measure and mark it up and then measure again .

then cut !

should be easy as pie.. don't forget the face mask ! or you'll end up looking like me !

kisses !!!!!!

Don't think you're allowed to do that ^^^^.

+ I hate ******s. £54 for a 15m Cat 5e wire. Go to hell.

The Mac will do a **** poor job, but everything else looks okay, a touch OTT if anything. ;)

Just remember, preperation is the key here. As said earlier measure twice, cut once.

Nah Measure once cut twice then manage the ruler for poor performance.
