LOL............This is what all the HD2900xt owners for saying last year.....(am still waiting to see ATI bring these mature HD2900xt drivers out)
lol? You do realise there have been major improvements due to drivers since release right? Compared to how they perform now, they were lemons. When I first got it the "AA Problem" was pretty bad, now it's been reduced quite a lot, an 8800GT will see more of a performance hit in some cases (points at TPU reviews) albeit a small amount, but it still stands. They've come along really well since release, and they seem to keep getting better.
Yeah Im quite sure that would be the case but that's my concern. I recall nvidia claiming in their presentation about multi gpu support only available in showcase games and most other games receive less attention.

Reviews are always subjective and as said crossfire/decent drivers didnt help much thats why ATI are touting March will have some decent drivers for ATI owners.

And just remember its only been a month or so since 3870 launch, as said in many of the reviews the drivers arent the best even the newer ones that came out didnt offer any performance increases.
I know its an old dogs tale..... but its only been 1 month since launch and everyones expecting golden drivers with performance to match

Your post makes absolutely no sense what so ever. I've seen the results and game performances from users (which I trust) and reviewers and I'm sorry but your statement doesn't back up from what I've seen and read from trusted and multiple sources?.I've got a GTX and should be moving over to the X2 soon and there's you saying you're going to a GTS or GT from the X2. I have a resolution capable of 2048x1536 m8. I'm not touching anything lower than the GTX as it would be a big downgrade for me.
I get lag issues in Call of Duty1 which I still play as well as CoD4. CoD4 (and every other title) is fine but it's something to do with the 8800 cards or at least their drivers. My m8 in Holland has the 8800GT and gets the exact same issues as me but with him having the weaker card he gets it a lot worse than me. I'm competitive and play this quite a lot still even though it's ancient. FreePorn servers are always buzzing and I'm a part of that community so it's an important game to be running smooth all the time. I have the 2900Pro still so I know that 1x 3870 is no good but I trust the user reviews and comments as well as benched so I think it will be a slight boost as well as stop the issues with CoD1.
@ Arthalen - I seen from another post from you that it was two games that I don't play or even intend to play so I'll happily still get the X2 as the main titles that I want to run well, do with this card
. Please don't go spouting hate about a card that has failed you in it's infancy. I'd give you the benefit of the doubt if you tried a lot of games but it's clear that you haven't. All I've read is not so great performances in two games and you are advising people to not get the card .With the 8.3 driver looming and with this card still being young and already showing great leaps in Crossfire solution with every driver leak I have to disagree with your comments about the card. The games I play will see the benefit and that will make the card worth it to me where it failed you. So please remember that when giving advice about the card.

Amazing how we've been hearing that since the X1900 days... by the time the cards drivers fully "mature" the next-gen usually arrives...
I was thinking that too, but been out the loop a while with all the "just wait till the drivers mature" banter...
Its abit like the PS3 owners who keep saying, "just you wait till xxxx is released"....
Well its not, so until it is, we can only go by hard facts. Facts don't look good for it really.
I had 3x X1900 XTX's and loved them to death... I just said they suffered in OpenGL compared to Nvidia. And they did... it was a known issue, if not a "major" one.
They may have been slower in opengl but they ran well enough, around the x1900 time frame there must have been one big name ogl game, that being quake 4. Also the rewritten ogl driver has only recently surfaced.
Just been going over some 3870x2 reviews again, the other thing that concerns me with this card is the minimum frame rates roported in some of the reviews.
Hardocp for example shows the card mostly on par with a 8800gtx wrt average frame rates but it does have some awful nose dives to single figures fps.
I'd love to see a review with the cat 8.2 drivers.
More and more those 2006 8800gtx buyers are looking smugger by the second

Hi mate, I was aware of that but thanks for the link anyway.
It shows the 3870x2 beating both the gx2 and 9800gtx in 3dmark which doesnt really matter to me, Im only bothered how well they perform in games.
If that is also true of games then I will certainly be going 3870x2 rather than 9800gx2 but I doubt that will be the case sadly.

The 3870X2 is still pretty new and I still reckon the drivers are causing most of the nose dives and issues... only way to find out if once the newer ATI drivers arive sometime in March.
Nvidia has always had the advantage point cos there 8000 series is from 2006 and was amazing to begin with and there drivers are both stable/fast, so even the 9000 series will automaticly benefit from that.
If you really wanna be sure of what your getting wait till Nvidias latest launch happens sometime in late March.

Well I hope it stays that way for you. 8.3 RC3 drivers are out and SimonMaltby is already showing some gains with 2x X2 3870's
. I can't wait to see what the final release of these drivers bring as it seems pretty decent so far.I just hope that you have made the right choice Arthalen. I know the GTX might be running those two games better than what you were getting on the X2 but there's still to be a proper driver release for this and it's going to be with us within the next 2 weeks and that might put your previous X2 3870 ahead of the 8800GTX as the X2 beats not only the GTX but the Ultra in a good few titles.
I just got my GTX in December and I think it's great except for one older title. It doesn't stop me being impressed with the X2 and wanting to buy it. Sadly I had to give a chunk of my money out for a family emergency so my plans for the X2 in the next couple of weeks has taken a dent.
I'm sorry, I should be telling you to enjoy your great new card. It's just that I'm thinking of moving over and from what I've seen it's seems like a good move to me. So instead of throwing my opinions on you I'm just going to wish you the best with your very fast card and it will eat through every game except Crysis so enjoy
.My general experience is that newer driver relases make very little real difference to game performance. The only ones I can ever remember makiing significant gains "accross the board" were the old NVidia 42.00 series which gave the TI4x00 series stunning boosts. Even then it was only 10-15%.
What is more likely is that future games will be coded better for dual gpu performance. Much like with dual and quad core processors, they are only as good as the software they run. Who else remembers when dual-core processors were slower in many apps that single core CPU's running the same speeds?

If they compared the 3870x2 with a 8800gtx using the initial reliese drivers for the 8800gtx it would be a fair test imho.
CrossFire seems to work so much better than SLI but it looks like ATI need to increase their software development team to get the game suppoprt out there faster. It's no real use getting crossfire support out a year after a game has launched (generally) as there will just be new single cards that work better than the CrossFire solution.

My honest opinion about all of this is the same as before I even headed into the debate of the X2 vs. the GTX.

The only reason I choose the X2 initially was because of the reputation of ATI's X64 Vista drivers. That said, the three days that I've had the GTX for now, I've not encountered a single issue with either the card or the drivers.
