AMD made me do it by pricing their 7900XTX at $1000=£1050-£1100.
I have bought a 4090 (Zotac Trinity) to couple with my 2015 Intel 5960X and replace my now single 1080TI on a Sony Bravia 50" HDTV, beat that!
Obv I'm going to build a killer new rig but I had the money, 'needed' a new rig and If I'm not intending to buy again for 3-5 years I went big then went home.
Just pondering the rest and curious to see how the 4090 performs with such ancient tech. Any feedback about CPU/MOBO/RAM appreciated as going for 55" LG OLED 4K TV as monitor.
I would have bought a 7900XTX at £800-900 but the gulf between them means the cost per frame of the 4090 is actually pretty good. I once bought Titan Pascal SLI so I have previous.
I'd like to give AMD some cash but I'm tempted to go Intel again with a 13700X. I'm not brand loyal just want the bestish for silly money or nearly the best for sensible money. Over £1K =silly money so I got the best. On the plus side my 1080TI will soon go to a new home, hopefully to be with a mate in SLI! Gaming and internet only.

If you can wait for next month, AMD's V-cache versions of Zen 4 will be out by then and should do very well in gaming.

He has a intel CPU

I've just upgraded my son's 5960x. It's been a solid CPU. Passed to a friend's son. Should do him for a few years too.

I used my 4090 in my old X99 rig for a few weeks while waiting for other parts to arrive.
The CPU bottleneck even at 4K was real!
I went AM5 for a change (been almost 20 years since I had an Athlon XP) and the option of the next X3D chips seemed like a good option to have.

:cry::cry::cry:

Yeah, AMD did screw up their pricing. But that's OK, because the 7900 XTX's have sold out everywhere apparently :cry:

You watch though, won't be long they will be gathering dust on shelves just like the 4080. They should have been no more than $799 and people would have been singing their praises rather than slating them.

Just like all the old cards. 660, 1080… more money than seance some people.

Ah Where's your Overclockers spirit? Ouijast can't get enough power. It seems you prefer to go for a medium card? :o

Ah I remember…. Let’s all just get 4090s ☺️ drain the uk power grid.

Hell no! I go for low end ones. Still rocking a 660 GTX! I mentioned in the games thread I play only light platform games and it’s used for work purposes so no need for anything big. I think my system draws 113w at idle. Not sure on gaming I’ll have to test I’ve got a tester I’ll do it when I’m next home.

Heavenly value, probably a bit of a demon back in its day. Probably a good time to throw the towel in and let you know I was riffing off you saying seance instead of sense :p x
