Nonsense.

The I-Series LAN is quite infamous for having poor latency. Or rather, any LAN with more than 255 active connections. It's a limitation of TCP/IP so it's not MPUK's fault.

Actually, its not a LAN, MPUK's network at I-series events is a WAN, lots of subnets, and never more than 255 active connections will ever contend for the same bandwidth. Its a very clever setup.

Bandwidth is not the issue.

a WAN is just a collection of LAN's, aka subnets as you have referred. I-Series do have a 'clever' setup, it's also the only sensible setup available for TCP/IP (Ethernet) connectivity with more than 255 connections.

This is also why there are problems with searching for in-house servers.

Joining their match servers with a ping of 60 is encouraging..

I'd love to sit and argue this case with you, but your clearly confused, and don't know what your talking about, for a start, just calling TCP/IP ethernet is plain wrong.

Ethernet is a physical standard and tcp/ip is a protocol suite, they are NOT interchangable terms.

At the I-series events, you are directly on the "internet" for want of a better term, you have a global static IP address, that is straight out externally, hence connecting from inside or outside the venue is no different, the difference here comes from cable length (to the said server) and contention, hence my ping at the event will ALWAYS be lower than that of an outsider, due to sheer closeness to the server alone!

Your LAN card or the LAN's you attend must suck balls then. My ping at I-Series is always <20 generally its 10ms or around that.

If i'm lucky and find a very local and half empty server on the internet, I can get maybe 34ms.

hmm <20 ? i get that on my adsl :p

Well i used to live on Pyle Hill and be able to see the racecourse from my room. But not i'm over in Tadley which is only 15mins away, still loads of mates in Newbury so over there when i can be. also /i-series extremist

/resurrect. i27 starts tonight. heading over there now for a couple of drinks and then setting up.

Wish I could be there, it looks to be a very fine competition, especially for CSS!

Good luck to all those going, and please, if you lose on dust2, dont blame it on the fact its dust2! :P

YES here at last, im on the second floor sitting in the reason-gaming section (you can see it when you come through from the stairway, with the big screen at the end of the desk) end PC (the CRT right at the end)

if anyone feels like saying hello then feel free :D

Late to post, but im 2F-H1 if anyone wants to say hello :)
