So i preordered 1 months worth of service from them before bf4 came out as a tester because bf3 hosting has been quite bad (a lot of crashing and so on) anyway it went the same way and within a month i was sick of being an admin (not sick of playing however).

Anyway i had contacted them many times trying to fix the problem's and the last time i contacted them i had talked about it being good that my service was ending soon (not blaming them btw).

And now today i get a email saying that i owe them 125 pounds for two months of service they have provided  and that they were going to contact there collection agency...

So i was shocked as i had never ever gotten in to any debt or had any problems like this so i contacted them and they told me (and accepted btw) that for the past two months that the server was shutdown and reallocated to someone else... but that in my terms of service there was a clause that they can auto renew my service...

Now here comes the weird point the guy i was talking too told me that its on the checkout

This is there new checkout and you can cleary see there is two ticky boxes to confirm that they can take my kidney And right under there in delibratly smaller wrighting is them saying they will auto renew notice that it says at the "end" of the contract period!

But this isnt even the checkout that i signed up on its a new checkout! so i cant even check if there telling the truth :( all in all i am stuck between talking to some people from another country and them telling me i can either pay or they will get there collection agency to get the money from me... so after this craptastic christmas present i will never ever be buying a server from them or any other server provider outside the uk.

Please give me your opions (i dont really want to start a hate topic about this company) or any ideas about avoiding these weird payments as i have not used the server nor have i even logged onto there website in the last couple of month's

And you are unhappy that they have auto-extended the server, as stipulated in their T&C without asking you?

did you actually tell them you were gonna cancel?

sounds a bit like netflix where you order one months service and it automatically continues unless you specifically tell them otherwise.

I also expect they will be entitled to charge you for the additional months whether you were playing or not. If you didnt cancel the service id guess the fault lies with you, had you not noticed any further payments coming from your account?

Not their fault, you didn't read up on how to cancel their service. Amazon does the same thing, people sign up to prime for the free trial then never cancel and it continues.

Back when i purchased it there was sadly no warning (that i can remember) so i was never aware of the fact that it would be a recurring payment! and i have received no calls or emails till todays telling me about money owed (which means i apparently owe them 120 pounds when if i had be forewarned i could have canceled it without ever having to pay them)

I completely agree that when signing up now it is a lot more obvious (perhaps still abit hidden as i would expect to be next to the t/c) but when i signed up the page was different and as i said before perfectly happy to have peoples opion's.

well the only thing i can think of would be do you still have a copy of the email they sent you when you first signed up?

If you have that it would at least be proof of when you took out the service, if the terms were different at that stage then you might have something to work with.

Otherwise id expect you will have to chalk it upto experience.

Alternatively just refuse to pay the bill and see what they do, if it went to small claims (which it wont) you can defend then. Chances are they will just employ bullying tactics in an effort to get you to pay up.

If it was me and i believed i was in the right i would not pay it.

^that is all i can think of lol.

Also i forgot to add the second payment isnt actually active yet just pending (still got 5 days) so currently 65 pounds is all i owe but they refuse to cancel the pending till i pay (obvious bully tactics/trying to make sure i pay)

but surely that server being allocated to someone else for the past 2 months means there is no way they were actually providing the service they are now requesting payment for?

If they had auto-renewed the contract/service and the server was up and running then yes I would agree with the above in that it's on you.

However, they appear to have aknowledged that you didn't want the server and gave it to someone else.

they clearly Haven't auto renewed your server as they gave it to someone else
They can't now bill you for a service they never provided.
They've auto renewed your bill lol :p
Tell em to take a running jump tbh

Issue now resolved contacted them by phone this time and very quickly worked out what to do and is now sorted!

I have paid to have the server for one month again and after that time it will be cancelled.

And i will now read every god damn page of terms and conditions. (well atleast ctrl and f and type in things that might affect me :) )

Should have just fought it, or rather, ignored it.

Ignore them, they can't claim money for the server, I don't understand why they contacted you for payment, surely the new owner has been paying for it anyway......

Dumb server host.......

Of course they can claim money from him as hen agreed to their terms and conditions of service. They have provided a service and the OP should have made himself aware of the conditions he agreed to and therefore cancelled it in the correct way.

Ignorance is not an excuse and ignoring it is poor advice. Sounds like the OP and the company came to a reasonable compromise.

They didn't provide the service....
He states in opening post that for the last 2 months the server was assigned to someone else! how on earth they can claim they were providing a service when the server he was expected to pay for was given to someone else I don't know.

had it been a case of "rolling contract not cancelled" then fair play, but they gave the server to someone else lol

I wouldn't have paid

Cancelling a contract over the phone leaves you with no proof in writing to prove that you cancelled....;)
