i5 2500k probable issue?

if i use the arrow keys it skips over it and if i try to click on it there's no reaction :D

it was working fine in the throws of my computer being broken. typically.

it isn't, no. i think i bought it a month before they brought them out.

i've managed to adjust the frequency before though.

Ah, well you need to exchange it - but that's for another time.

For now:

Download CPUz and click on the memory tab and list the timings info.

didn't even consider the idea they'd swap it. guess it's quite obvious really :D

timings:

dram frequency - 665.2mhz
fsb:dram - 1:5
CAS# latency - 9 clocks
RAS# to CAS# lat - 9 clocks
RAS# pre-charge - 9 clocks
cycle time - 24 clocks

command rate - 1T

i have managed to alter the clocks, but just not the frequency.

Yep, you can get an exchange - although you may have to pay for p&p now as i think you've missed out in the exchange program they had running for free.

From your BIOS screen shot:

Disable Turbo boost (as you've clocked it to 4.2GHz)
Disable OC Genie Button thing-a-me
And then set the DRAM timing mode to link.

Save and exit - report back.

done that.

it's taken the overclock off now as i was using the oc genie to achieve it (not that i need to really)

other than that, the frequency is still the same.

excellent. according to cpu-z, that's now sorted it.

brilliant mate. thanks ever so much for your continued support :D

Not a problem - you will need to enter the timings and comand rate manually (if they're not correct in CPUz) but we'll do this later if required as i need to eat.

But first, re-enter the BIOS and confirm that your DRAM voltage is at the recommended voltage - which is 1.35V.

For info the timings should read 9-9-9-24 and the command rate probably 2T.

You can clarify this in CPUz in the SPD tab and compare it to the memory tab.

Well, the memory tab displays timings, frequency etc correctly for OCZ3P1600C9ELV4GK.

I'm presuming you've confrimed that the memory is set at 1.35V in the BIOS as CPUz can't read this information.

Interestingly, the SPD tab doesn't list the XMP-1600 settings but the part number reads correctly.

Try updating your CPUz to the latest release and look at the SPD again.

yep, changed the voltage to 1.355v

both tabs look the same in the new version of cpu-z too. anything to worry about?

It's possible that the memory didn't have an XMP profile - i.e. it was tested to run at 1600Mhz etc etc but did not have the profile imbedded on the memory. In which case it's not a problem.

I've looked at the OCZ site and there's no mention of an XMP profile.
