i5-2500k problems

Hey all im not sure if im missing something here but i have my i5 at factory settings apart from the boot order, HPET at 63-bit and quick boot enabled and every so often the multiplier drops down to 16 and it runs an 1600mhz and doesnt go back up, what am i doing wrong?

It does that to reduce power consumption (energy saving), it's normal.

When you put the processor under load it will go back up to normal clockspeeds.

is there any way to stop it because it seems to be causing big amounts of latency when i play wow

Speedstep is enabled which automatically reduces the mutiliplier when under less stress.

edit - this should increase when you play your Wow. You can disable speedstep in the BIOS. Try it, see if it makes any difference?

Check your RAM is running at the correct frequency too

EDIT: I changed the memory frequency to the right one but where is the speedstep setting??

Depends on what board and BIOS you have, but it should be somewhere around the advanced cpu features

Thanks for your help, seems to be working great now Was almost as if before it was taking some time before it jumped up the frequency or it was bordering on moving up a level.

To be fair, my i5 also sometimes goes to idle mode while playing WoW... it's not that there's anything wrong with it, just that I'm probably facing a corner and FPS capped to 60 so it doesn't get enough to do
