I7 4770k delid?

I checked my voltage and it was max 1.15v under real bench at stock clocks of 3.9ghz.

How much thermal paste did you use? The difference in cores is a bit high. The D15 is very similar in performance to the k2 cooler I used on all my haswell chips.

Has the de-lid technique changed much since the core 2 duo days?
You can pick them up for pennies now, why not experiment with these first?

I will take cooler apart tomorrow and take a picture of how much I used. I used small pea blob in the middle.
A rice grain sized drop is all you need.

C2d chips were soldered, its only since Ivybridge that Intel have started pasting mainstream chips.

I started lopping them off when the athlon 64 came out if i remember correctly, if ya have any of them old chips laying around you could practice on them. Im sure they used to be easier to get off though, the intel heatspreaders seem to be tighter on the chips ive done.

I wonder if intel will ever start selling an enthusiast range of chip with no heat spreaders or heatsync and fan included for the overclockers. It would save them materials, packaging and would save us work and unnecessary risk also, everyone wins.

I will try to do less paste and see results. I will report back now I'm on my way to lecture.

Okay so is there any way to soften the silicon or whatever its holding ihs ? I tried with hairdryer just now on e7300 2minutes 20 cm away from chip, but when I try to do with dental floss it doesnt want to go through and I dont want to be to hard as my fingers are already red :D

Just get a hammer and hit it, it's not difficult.

Did you see the vid in my linked post?

I had the same thing where two of the cores were hitting 90c plus. I cut a rectangle from a ram packet (it's very thin plastic, narrower than a cc card etc) and slowly worked my way round. No chance of cutting the pcb just dont go too far towards the core because as others have said you'll take the surface mount resistors off.

I used a chisel after jamming the PCB between 2 bits of wood (my knees were the tension!) with my 4790k. :p

Just heat it up with the hair-dryer first and go for one corner gently. After it comes up, you can easily lift the rest up at leisure with a blunt spoon or whatever.

Hmmm, i delided my i7-4770K back when i got it 2 years ago or so, had it stable and OC it to 4.2 and never really worried about it again. But just got Overwatch over the last week and that has an option to show system info in game and noticed that the temps while gaming on Overwatch was around 72c and thats with it delided!!...thats seems high no?

What thermal paste did you use on the cpu die?

Might need a clean and reapplication.

Yeah thats what i was wondering, didnt know what the life was of liquid pro metal paste once applied??....i was under the impression normal thermal paste was good for a long time but no so sure on liquid pro?

I still have the original Coolaboratory stuff in the syringe still, will that still be good or will i need to buy some more?....but if i end up selling this CPU i might as well not bother and just clean it up and sell it on and inform the seller that they'll need some Liquid Pro
