I've been thinking of upgrading my set-up. Is it worth upgrading now or is it best to wait for Zen+ which is supposedly targeting 5 GHz?

Current rig
i7 4790 (non k)
Msi H-87 G43
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
RX 480 (8GB)

and if I do would it be best to replace my PSU (Corsair CX600M)

Coming from a person who has 2 gaming PC's. One is a 4790k and other is R7 1700.

My answer is no, not worth the upgrade unless you have money to burn.

I came from a 4770 non k to a 1700. In gaming the results are the same or slightly better for ryzen. But certainly not £500+ better, that money would be better spent on a GPU.

If all you do is gaming, while not running other apps/tasks, probably not.

But generally, even for a gaming system I would say yes, if your system has a lot of background tasks, etc.

Where it has let me down compared to 4790k is lightroom. That doesn't use multiple cores as well as it could.

I went from a 4790 to a 1700x and can confirm, basically identical in gaming. Though very noticeably better in streaming which is why I upgraded, so that's good.

I do render video some times and so a 1700x would be nice, but for the extra money I just make do with what I have and wait longer for renders.
One day though I will treat my self when there is a much bigger upgrade to be had. If I can make this last another year or 2 then I think it will be worth
the wait.
