i7 860 overclocking...

well i hada look to see if i have the problem, and thankfully nothing looks outt a place connections all seem ok i see little dimples on each one from what i can see.

same time i changed my tim over to mx-3 and droped 2-3 degres of temp now idles at 25c.

Oh I know mine has a Foxconn socket, checked that a while ago when the *EEK FOXCONN SOCKETS MELT WHEN YOU OC TO 5.3GHZ ON LIQUID NITROGEN* thread came up.

I checked the contacts and they're all dented from the pins so I'm not overly worried. The issue is when there are pads without pin marks so there is questionable contact and that causes trouble at high current when overclocked.

Wouldn't mind seeing what asus says though.

are some of these pins not connecting properly or not connecting at all???

Some pins are not connecting properly, which over time will cause a short circuit and the burning to both board and CPU. So in my opinion it is not just a problem for overclockers, it is one for anybody with a Foxconn socket. It will only happen quicker to overclockers because of the extra voltages. There are some people reporting it already to un-overclocked boards and CPU's:

In response to my email to ASUS, they fobbed me off with the same response I posted here from the ASUS forum. Exactly the same one. At the bottom of the email was the email address for the customer service manager, so I sent another email to him/her demanding a real answer and stressing that I am not going to stop until I get one! I'm just going to pester them constantly.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather not wait until the damage has been done!

I dont think this is right, i think that as some pins are not connecting properly the other pins have to take the strain and can burn out, but im pretty sure that this'll only happen if you freeze your board and put ridiculus volts through it. still i'd be pretty ****ed if i'd bought a board that had substandard parts on it, so keep up the pressure, and see if you can get an upgrade to compensate for your time:cool:
