Trying an air cooler is a very good idea, I guess the Asus is one of the ones with 775 and 1366 mounting holes then?

Well I tried to fit the Scythe Mugen but it wasnt having any of it.. looks like the length of the pegs is a bit too short.

The reason I asked whether you had tested with an air cooler was because certain chips seem to run a lot hotter than others.
The 2nd i7 I had would idle at 51c, and under full load temps would hit the high 70's, this was with the chip at stock.
I tested it with 4 different air coolers (stock HSF, Zalman 9700NT, and 2 x TRUE's) and no matter which cooler I used, the chip would run at least 15c hotter than my previous chip.
At first I thought maybe the IHS was warped, and the base of the heatsinks wasn't making proper contact, but when I checked the IHS with a straight edge, it looked ok.
Then I found a thread on XS about chips that have high leakage, which made me think that this was probably the issue with the chip I had..
Regarding the stock fan, it should be more than good enough when the chip is at stock frequency, what kinda load temps were you seeing with the stock cooler out of interest?

DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT RMA to the supplier, instead fill out an RMA on Corsair's website and if they approve it they will replace it regardless of fault or non fault.
I just wish I had known this prior to spending near on £30 in shipping/testing fees. It may cost a £5 more but its worth it for piece of mind, knowing you will get a new one regardless.

I only wanted to see what your idle and load temps were at stock frequency, just to see whether they were normal or not.

then the net here at work decided to go into completely blocked mode so couldnt change it haha, sorted now
Just hope this will help some other people out there if they ever feel they need to RMA their H50

I am far from optimistic if you were to see the little response I had from the Returns Manager - my response was to outline the truth in the testing procedure and how poorly it was conducted on this occasion. No response yet though!
Corsair have accepted my goods today and they will review my RMA and keep me up-to-date within the week coming up.

they have received the goods in the Netherlands last Friday, but they state there is high demand on RMAs at the moment
I'm hoping I will see it returned before xmas but not holding my breath!
As for OcUK they are not in my good books any more. I have sent multiple of these stupid webnotes and the Returns Manager replied once with a substandard reply basically trying to fob me off... NOT impressed with their customer service
but that said I will be sending another webnote today, and hope for a decent reply.

Hey Dan, hope the RMA goes well this time around.
When installing my H50 i noticed some slight "sloshing" like bubbles moving inside the rad of mine which worried me but i thought nothing of it.
My temps seem to be ok though at around 41c idle and 68c ish load @ 3.8GH.

didnt u put a deliberate mark on the one that you returned? i usually etch a small x somewhere
I didnt mark it, but there is a mark on the copper base - I cant prove that OcUK did it but I'm pretty sure it wasnt there before I sent it off..
OcUK RMA system is a complete joke
