Hi guys,

Im looking for some advice on my cpu temps.
I am running a i7 950 @ 3.8 via cpu level up (crazy setting) on my rampage 2 extreme , being cooled by a Corsair H100.
My idle temps are 49-55c , I do have 2 x gtx480 sandwiched together producing a lot of heat and room ambient temp is about 20c.
Under load with prime95 temps reach 90c on one core after 15min.
Are my temps right?

never do OC in windows. do it in bios. the programs in windows will pump stupid amounts of voltage 2 guarantee stability. is your CPU a D stepping or C?

Check what the pump is sitting on, looking at the RIIE I notice there are allot of caps around the socket. Its possible the pump block is sitting on a cap preventing good contact with the chip. Its a known issue on some boards and is solved by rotating the pump by 90 degrees.

I have no room for push/pull configuration.
I overclock on bios using the cpu level option on my rampage II extreme.
According to cpu-z voltage is 1.349v.
CPU is a D stepping.
I believe the pump is sitting on right and the caps are still away from socket.
Also im using the paste that came with h100, should i try artic silver 5?
Im not that confident in oc so i use the bios option (cpu level up).

In which case it might be an idea to drop the chip to stock and stress to check temps, if still too high then you could probably point the finger at the H100, if not then probably down to the voltage. Though voltage doesn't look overly high.

The paste that comes with the H100 is fine.

Edit: suggested look at the caps as from looking at the board there is one cap sat quite close to the socket on the left hand side.

Also after a little google I've found other people using the RIIE with the H100 mounted in the usual way with no problem, so I think we can rule out caps.

At stock speeds i get the following temps 37-42c idle 59-65c load with prime95.
The cap just to the left still got clearence so its fine.
For the thermal paste ive allready got ac5 so not gonna buy other?
On the h100 i have the fans on the top part of the corsair 600T(under the top cover bit) would that matter?
Thanks for all the replys btw!

its fairly simple for 3.8ghz,just manually set cpu voltage, imc and dram bus voltage

for 3.8ghz set

imc to 1.3750v maybe more with 12gb
dram bus voltage to 1.5v or 1.65v depending on ram model
use 180x21bclk,might be other combos not sure on max multi with that chip
can use cpu offset where you add a tiny amount of voltage to cpu voltage only at load so maybe try +0.0200v and add more if unstable

software based or auto clocking nearly always uses more voltage than manually tweaking ect

i think your two 480's are the biggest cause of your heat problems though, they run hot

Are the 480's reference or non reference cooled? Ive found with my sli setups, the non ref cards caused a lot more heat. The stock cooled cards expel out the pci bracket. Whereas the non ref cards dumped heat into the case, this then rose up and effected the cpu temps.

The gtx480`s are using stock coolers!
