i7 Skeleton build and mod log

Yellow it is then

Actually could do with a little tech advice re wiring in the LED toggle switches I have. The ones currently mounted in the switch box were fairly easy to sus re what went into what re -ve and +ve etc

These though, are not quite so obvious, and annoyinly have one of the terminals coming off the bottom of the unit. It has the earth symbol on it, so is that -ve in a PC case? also, there is a what looks like a screw hole between the other two terminals marked with the same symbol so I might be able to use that instead saving me having to try to bend the other terminal round to make it fit.

I'm going to post another thread re this problem, but wondered if you guys had any advice???

How the existing switches are wired in, and the new switches

Looking really good mate, any chance u can tell me how u took apart the gentel typhoons plz?
ive had a look at min and saw a really fiddlally hook thing holding the motor in? any ideas?

peel the sticker off the back, looking at the hub you'll see what looks like two little hook things, these are actually the spreaders from the what appears to be the worlds smallest circlip. using either tweezers or a pair of wachmakers screwdrivers, gently pry them apart and lift the circlip of. Be very careful as it's tiny and if it flicks off you'll never find it. Also a good idea to store the circlip in something white so you can find it again. I'd take mine apart to show you, but it really is a fiddle to do it.

well still no real idea about how to wre in the switches so think will have to wing it.

Today has seen what I sincerely and solemnly hope will be the last of the sprayng. The toggle switch covers have come out rather nice (even if you consider all I was doing was changing from one shade of yellow to another)

I've also touched up the grill cover where its been cut etc.

Should have some photos up tomorrow.

All being well the final assembly should be starting soon

Finally got to the good part, putting it all together.

Still a bit of work to do, the typhoon fan is drying so I'm using the PWM fan that came with the titan to get things up and running. Also have yet to attach the RAM cooler.

You'll notice that the Titan eventually ended up mounted cross wise, I did this as unfortunately when mounted traditionally half of the fan surface was occluded by the RAM cooler, not only that but it was very tight up against on the first stick of RAM being an open air case it doesn't really matter which way round it goes. as you can see even cross mounted it's still pretty tight.

Apologies for the quality of the photos

Well its all finished, took just over a month in all

Like I said at the outset, this is my first ever mod, and i've learned a few things along the way (especially about painting) I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out

Powered up last night, temps look good (as they are with this case), and the 1850rpm typhoon has brought things down another 3 degrees or so, and is not noticably louder than the 1450 version.

OC'd to 4gigs no problem and primed for a few hours this morning without problem. thinking of going to 4.2 but will let things sit for a while at 4gigs first.

Would love to know what you guys think, good or bad.

Many thanks to all that assisted with comments and advice along the way.

Next project will be a sonata III, It's piano Black on the outside, so thinking of going high gloss whiite on the inside with white braiding to match, but still mulling it over.

any hints of where you got the LEDs from?

switches with yellow LEDs that are yet to be fitted came from states (i forget where) but they cost me a fortune to get over here. I have some other LEDs that I am planning to use to replace the ones in the power switch and HDD light etc but need to gen up on a bit of electronics first as I wouldn'y assume it's so easy as just swapping them over. They came from a popular retail park electronics components outlet

Yup.

Not sure if I can post piccys of the LEDs in their bags???

you don't happen to know if it is just a matter of swapping them over do you? Just a bit worried as the switch lights are fed from the mobo.

If the new LED's are the same voltage as the ones you're replacing then it's just a case of swapping them over. If they are different voltages then you'll probably have to add resistors into the circuit.

Ok, but how do I know what the values are for the ones I have in the system at present (come to think of it the ones I have in the bag don't have values on them either

Many thanks to all for the feedback and comments, it's made it even more worthwhile.

Still not sure on how to wire in the new toggle switches, and a big problem is goint to be the terminal that comes of the bottom corner, still nothing a dremmel shouldn't be able to sort. I've got an old multi volt transformer so I might have a bit of a fiddle and see what I can come up with. bit loath to suck it see on the PC itself incase things go POP.

LED wise the ones I have from "M" are intended to replace the blue power, HDD and reset lights currently on the rig, It's because the power for these lights comes straight from the mobo at the power block terminal that i'm hesitant to suck it and see there either.

All I need now is a new GPU to replace the 8800GTs I have in place, but waiting to see what Nvidia are going to release, hopefully before too long??

dont know how i didnt see this thread sooner, i guess i have been busy...
good job on the case, i'm gonna have to pull my finger out now and do something more to mine!

Hi Bluntside, good to hear from you again. hows the rig?

Again many thanks to all for feedback, I'm giving serious thoughts to getting another and modding it. thinking of either going full on chrome, but would need to find the right paint, or perhaps arctic or pearlescent white with maybe another colour.

appreciate thoughts and ideas.

Don't go for candy red; that's mine, when I get round to starting it!

Not a problem Paul, You have first shout on the apple red. I seem to remember you were going apple red all over, where if I down that route mine will simply have red accents and be more of a raspberry, think like the sauce you put on ice cream type colour

Mmmmm Ice cream

Just been having a bit of a clear up as the room has gotten into a bit of a state and came accross this bit of masking tape that was used in the spraying. I remember putting it to one side but had forgotten about it. Don't know why but I kinda like the stencil effect.

Also a picture of my "office" after i'd finished the build.

That's "office" as in "where I go to game and generally clock the twangers of stuff"

I've enjoyed this mod and build so much, that i'm going to do another in the not to distant future. I'll be using the Skeleton again.

So guys? any suggestions for colour schemes? I've got a few ideas, but would love to hear yours.
