My brother wants a good cheep PC so looking to shift the guts of my PC to him to keep his costs down and go upgrade mine.

looking to put together an I7 build, but is there relay much benefit over I5 or even my Q6600?

looking at the following.

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail £209.14
OcUK Value GeForce GTX 465 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with MAFIA 2 - £164.49
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard - £149.99
2 X LG Flatron W2261V-PF 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black - £146.86
OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C8 1600MHz Triple Channel (OCZ3G1600LV6GK) - £114.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit - OEM (GFC-00564) - £79.89

Total - £1,032.31, looking to get £450-£500 for my stuff.

any improvements would be welcome. Is this actually going to give me any benefit at all over my Q6600 rig? would look to overclock on water.

use my rig for mainly for games, 3D modelling (Inventor & Solidworks) and some rendering.

so we are looking at

Link below shows a comparison between the two (920 tested) overclock to 4ghz ~
you should see a reasonable improvement.

would it be better for overclocking.

quote from the conclusion,

The Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev 2) and Asus P5X58D-E are very similar to each other in terms of price, features and performance. The D-E has a few things going in its favour though, such as its extra on-board overclocking features, friendly BIOS, extra power phases and slightly superior performance in our Media Benchmarks when overclocked. Against it however, is its lack of an IDE port, two fewer SATA ports and slightly inferior gaming performance when overclocked.

However, the margins we’re talking about here are so small that you’d be hard pushed to notice the difference in a real-world situation. As a result we’d suggest making your decision based on which features are most important to you. If you need lots of SATA ports or an IDE port, the Gigabyte UD3R will do you proud. If you plan to run your PC overclocked for extended periods of time then the Asus D-E’s extra power phases and slightly better overclocked performance should be what you’re looking for.

is this relay going to be a good upgrade for over £600??
I presume you mean from you signature rig. Really it depends on what you are going to be using it for. For purely gaming terms you could just improve your graphics card and try to overclock the Q6600 a bit further. For video rendering and encoding then yes you will see a some improvement.

Very difficult to answer in all honesty.
