Icarus - PVE Survival

Very repetitive, not only that but they refuse to add new ways of travelling. It's basically a walking/running simulator.

The only thing they have to make the game challenge is storms and animals, so make you travel to the other side of the map to make some kind of challenge. It's very tiresome.

They keep adding new weapons and crafting abilities but they have absolutely no use at the moment, just spec up to a fabricator get a hunting rifle and then just do all the missions.

They started adding smaller time limit missions, which I really don't see the point of, 3 hour missions just makes it impossible for most to finish them, and if you run out of time you can lose your character completly!

The premise was so good, the potential was so good, sadly the game that was delivered just wasn't what I expected and I'm sure I'm not alone. Yes it's great for the first few days, a week maybe, but then you start to see a very repetitive grind fest. Having to make your base over and over again with each new mission is so stupid it really starts to grate. Shame.

Bring on the big hitter, Sons Of The Forest.

Am sure that I read somewhere that they were going to add vehicles at some point.
Probably not much use on the short time frame missions though.

They have been saying that since day one. 36 weeks in and they are still not here and everything they have added is pointless.

The game is basically broken as well, walk into a ice, desert or cave area and your FPS tanks to like 10 for 5 or 7 minutes while it refreshes textures over the whole area

I played this an obscene amount in December when our household came down with COVID. It was ridiculously addictive (like 12-16 hour days on it) but the biggest bugbear for me was having to build a new base every mission.

There is maybe a minority that this appeals to. I kinda like it as I started a outpost and got quite far building in concrete then started to realise I didn't really have any goal. The game crashed in one of the rare occasions I tried DX12 and that wiped my outpost anyway!

Wasn't that sorry about it and went back to trying the odd solo mission as I do like to try different versions of a quick base. Travel is becoming one of the more tedious tasks and just a simple E-Bike would suit me BUT definitely no rides or pets please.

Bought this after reading the recent positive reviews on steam. I had my doubts because of the bad launch it had but the new open world mode is a game changer. One of the best co-op experiences i've had and i've played a quite a few similar games (7 Days to Die, The Forest/Sons of the Forest, Valheim, Green Hell, Conan Exiles, Ark etc).

The fact you don't have to rebuild everything is great and i believe you can do the missions from the persistant world as well. Seems to have turned into a gem of a game.

Was really enjoying this a while back but the performance tanked after some updates. Has it improved now?

This is one of the things i looked at. I have a 3070 and a 5800X and was getting 50 fps.I made some changes to the gfx settings and got a stable 70fps and it looks pretty much the same. Runs smooth enough for me but i guess thats personal preference.

That fps would be fine with me, I have 7900xtx and 5800x3d but it ran terrible about 6 months back. If I remember correctly it was when the lightning storms were almost constant, will give it another go :)

Game is still in early access even though they say it's not.

It was bad when it first came out, it's just as bad now. The weekly upgrade are generally garbage. I got bored a long time ago.

Just tried it again and it still doesn't run great. Will return in a few more months to see.
