ICT jobs

Of course! If the joke makes me laugh, then good But what it shows is that someone has the ability to think quickly on their feet.

Best joke we heard: -

Q. Whats stiff and excites women?
A. Elvis Presley !

The 3 of us interviewing him absolutely pi$$ed ourselves. He hadnt interview well until that point, but he got the job.

Maybe you should be interviewing potential comedians? Oh wait... this is an ICT job.

This is why I hate interviews full of crap like this. I want employing based on ability not my ability to crack a joke.

IMO your CV is only of about 40percent importants to get your foot in the door if you can do a good interview you have no chance even if you have a great CV.

Maybe if you approached an interview with an open mind, you may have a better success rate ? When I interview people, I do take a balanced view on skills/experience etc, but I also look for someone who could adapt quickly to any given task and think outside the box. I look for people people. It is'nt crap! If I interviewed you, I would also give you a technical test of 50 questions. I'll also ask which football team you support. and if I dont like the team, I will take the **** out of you! LOL I look for a team player who has a sense of humour. A major asset if you want to work in IT is the ability to laugh/make others laugh. When it all goes wrong, and your dealing with the MD's PA, you need to be able to make her smile/feel sorry for you/understand its beyond your control if you want to get her onside and tell the MD its not too much to worry about. Dont get me wrong, theres a place for seriousness, but 9 times out of ten, humour defuses a situation. If youve ever worked a Support role, you'll know that's essential.

Im 21 and on 24k.

Started helping out at a local pc repair shop for free from the age of about 12. When I finished my GCSE's, I did 4 weeks unpaid work experience for EDS. They asked me to stay on doing a modern apprenticeship on 11k. Stayed there for 2 years, then at 18 left to work on a helpdesk for Fujitsu Siemens at about 14k. Worked there for a year and left at 19 to work for a financial recruitment company on there support team for about 18k. Worked there for 6 months and moved to HP CDS supporting the First Rail contract @ 19k. Then in February last year I moved to SITA on the helpdesk @ 24k.

I do have GCSE's (lowest mark B), but no higher education. Not too bad I suppose

Just out of interest, whats your problem ? You seem to just be getting the hump everytime I post. It would appear you dont understand IT, the type of people in IT and the way IT departments work. The OP was enquiring about IT and I have 10 years of experience working in IT.

What sort of job do you have at the moment ?

I'm starting a new job next monday. IT Assistant at a small film(60 people). Will be me and the IT manager as the only IT guys there.

I'm pretty lucky for landing this job, salary is 18.5k and I was on 15.5k before as a Network Technician at a university.

I'm only 19 and have never done any higher education so I think i'm doing ok for my age :)

Awesome, im kinda the same, started new Job in IT last year, straight out of college got a Merit Merit BTEC (My GCSE's werent that good but i did an IT GNVQ at school and got ok on that so think thats helped me along), though the job didnt require IT experience and its Mac so my BTEC made no difference lol, only me and IT manager aswell for small company around 50 people aswell, im on abit less but will be 20 soon and been there a year so hopefully a pay rise :D

Damn dude! nice to travel though or not? or it all remote desktop jobby lol?

Yea 50 people is nice but sometimes can get bored with not much to do, we have a london office (apart from the main one in winchester) which i go to on a weekly basis which is nice lol, but we are expanding soon so settin up a whole new office/servers is going to be fun imo :D

All remote desktop. Its not too bad, we take around 150 calls a day between us. Hard at the moment as one of my colleagues is off, so there's a lot more work.
